Never played 1, but 2 definitely holds up, I mean what Blizzard RTS doesn't?
As for WC3 I can't be unbiased... I love that game, I spent a good 1000 hours of my teenage years playing it. Warcraft 2 holds up quite well, but Warcraft hasn't held up since Warcraft 2 came out. No right click action, only select up to 4 units at a time, units only say 2 different things, and it just moves really really slow.

I tried playing 1 once. or it might have just been the demo. but I didn't get very far. it's pretty archaic. 2 is good though.

I only played the first one once, never much liked it. WC2 I played all the time. I have been meaning to try it again, but I can't go back from WC3.

1 doesnt hold up. 2 Mostly holds up but is stil a bit dated. You should still play it though. Also get 3 it is great.

I forgot to mention, Warcraft 1's soundtrack is low beat midi crap, and Warcraft 2's soundtrack is CD audio and it's awesome.

WC1 isn't very good these days. WC2 is ok, but it's quite hard and you don't have a lot of room for error in later scenarios. Also, any map with boats just sucks
