That is an awesome dispatcher for actually listening to her and figuring out what she couldnt say out loud in front of her abuser.

I have infinite respect for dispatchers, having actually looked into working as one and even shadowing one for a few hours. The job is legitimately stressful and they have so much patience.

I recomend you watch a movie called "Den Skyldige" AKA The Guilty. It's about a Dispatcher and it features ONE actor, and two rooms. Think of Tom Hardy's "Locke" but not in a car.

Exhilarating movie and it fucks up with your brain, especially around the 1 hour mark. One of the best films I've ever seen.

Yeah this is a thing now

Theyre starting to implement domestic violence codes between victims and dispatchers which shouldve been done long ago

I get what you guys are saying but this honestly makes me want to become a dispatcher. Seeing the good that can be done. Im weirdly emotional about this tbh.

It was like 90% people tripping their own alarms, then I called and made sure that was the case, get their password, lather rinse repeat. It was a pretty easy job until something lit on fire, or a duress signal came in. It was stressful at first, but eventually just became routine. My mom actually worked there part time prior to telling me when they were hiring.

Last I heard, there aren't formalized codes: the problem with codes is that both sides have to know them, and you can't count on victims having the opportunity to learn a code.

So they're doing the next best thing: training dispatchers to pick up on cues that a victim might leave in a call. Essentially the idea is to let the victim write their own code, as needed. It's not perfect, but the idea is to potentially reach more people.

The thing i worry about is an abuser knowing that the call for pizza is actually a 911 call (if they saw it on Facebook), then escalating their abuse. Still, it's a clever system when done right. I hope there are other codes out there, in situations where the pizza code wouldn't work.
