So to recap my mom is bed ridden, officially considered in hospice, terminally ill 4th stage brain cancer patient. She's at home, which I strongly disagree with because it's too taxing to tend to her needs round the clock for me and my twin brother. My step sister, a meth addict, occasionally drops by to steal stuff and take care of mom sometimes. We also take care of my step sister's three kids. My dad, who's been out of work but drawing disability since he was injured on the job, also takes care of her but spends most of his time plodding through junk and doing nothing in particular.

What's new is that dad has been really adamant about keeping meth sister around. Turns out he's been hooked on it since February, something I strongly suspected but now that I know for sure, I'm cutting him out.
He has power of attorney and refuses to put my mother in a proper hospice facility. He also likes to bully around my twin brother. Dad mostly just ignores me because he knows I'll push back against his antics.
Twin brother is bailing, so I'm doing the same. Good luck to those sorry pieces of trash, I'll be visiting the house occasionally to see mom.

Feels great to write this all down. I'm not even scratching the surface really.

that's a terrible situation and must have been a tough choice. why does your dad not want to put your mother in a proper hospice facility, or why can't you get in-home care for her?

In-home care comes about three times a week, not sure the specifics but probably has something to do with my dumpster fire of a state.

My take, as cynical as it is, is that he's stealing the morphine the doctors are giving to mom. And he won't be able to get away with that if she's at a facility.

I also have another sister, who's pretty much enabling my father. Her words being "I'd turn to meth too if I had to support two grown sons and watch my wife die!" And pretty much turning it around on us. This being despite me having a full time job and not asking him for a cent for literally years. I just don't get it, it's like my family is trying to win a contest to see who can be the biggest asshole.

Yeah, I hope I don't have to go back anytime soon. It already feels so much better to be out of that environment.
