Story was a mess and writing was generic as fuck. Other than that I loved it. Beat it for the 2nd time last month actually. The atmosphere and level design were really good.

I think making it semi-open world hurt it. Still enjoyable though I preferred the first.

never played it and heard praise, but the first game is a clusterfuck of games and the story is just too absurd and disjointed,

I beat it for the first time a few weeks ago. P solid game. I enjoyed it. Made me want to go back and replay the first one.

Agreed. Both Evil Within games are criminally underrated.

I enjoyed the first one despite it's problems. The second one really impressed me and made me regret waiting so long to play it. The first game might be hit or miss for people but I'd recommend TEW2 to anyone who likes survival horror.
