Handguns: almost everybody says that the Punisher is the worst gun, but I disagree. The Red 9 is almost broken in how good it is. Next down is the starter handgun with it's crazy crit rate. After that I'd put the punisher over the black tail, purely because it's good against shields and clusters. The blacktail isn't the best at anything that matters. Obviously Matilda just eats through ammo.

Shotguns: Jailbreaker is by far the best. Others not worth considering.

Rifles: Both very serviceable. I prefer the BAR because it's more satisfying to use, but they're equally effective choices when you take into account the difference in size.

Magnums: Completely unnecessary, but BB is clearly the better of the two.

TMP: very versatile. Can do a lot of things moderately well, but isn't the best at anything really. More of a fun gun to have if you have space.

Mine Launcher: a fun distraction.

All in my humble opinion, of course.

Not in RE4 it isn't.

Why shoot two quick bullets when you can shoot one that does more damage? All the other handguns have perfectly adequate firing rate.

Because 2 bullets have twice the chance of making an enemy fall to their knees, allowing you to suplex them and do a fuckton more damage AND prevent a Plaga from spawning.

You implied that the reason that the blacktail is good is because you can quickly fire off 2 shots instead of 1 when trying to set enemies up for a suplex. You don't need 2 shots to do that, so once again, what's the point of the blacktail?

TMP
Broken Butterfly

Red9 for the well roundedness
Striker for the close range and damage
TMP for ammo conservation and easy QTEs
Butterfly for mini-boss/boss slaying

I usually get whatever shotgun is available, and now i no longer waste money upgrading unless its one of the above weapons. My last playthrough, I found that the riot gun is amazing in the Novistador cave

If thats the bugs then yes, its the main reason I use the Riot Gun. Not only do you get it early when encountering them, you might as well try to convince them not to kill you with words rather than the Striker.

Any shotgun works fine against the Novistadors, and they're also pretty much the only thing that's effective against them. During my no-Merchant run, I entered the sewer with 0 bullets to my name and the game absolutely does not give you enough in the sewer to properly deal with the Novistadors. One of the hardest parts of my run by far.

Bolt action and red 9 is all you need for a solid run.

Most of my farming runs are with just those 2 guns.

I never thought I'd say this, but the gondola fucked me up bad. I'm doing a no-Merchant Pro run and this is the death count for 2-3:

Oh, it's been there since release. The RE fanbase is weird because you have these two really distinct camps because of the change in direction that 4 brought, and both camps don't seem to understand that you can like both styles of game.

i can understand. it was the game that turned resident evil from beloved niche survival horror franchise into a behemoth action powerhouse. it still has some small beats of horror from the older games, but it's definitely a few long-legged steps into the genre and tone the series was going to be known for, for about ten years. it was only until very recently that resident evil really took some dips back into the well of horror.

i think most people will argue the recent remake of re2 is the best in the series. it takes arguably the best installment in the franchise, and upgrades it just enough that it's still a survival horror experience with enough pepperings of resi 4 in it to keep those kind of fans around.

i personally hold no vitriol towards resi 4. it's probably my third favorite resident evil game in the series, after the original re2 and the remake of the first game.

I would completely disagree with your assessment of the remake. It's worse than the original in some regards. As for it being the best in the series, I'd put it below 2, 3, REmake, 4,5 and 7.

i actually agree with you, but i see why so many people love it. i wanted a one to one remake like the original game got, but with 1.5 stuff added in. i would kill for elza walker to be a real character.
