Been replaying DMC3 for the last week or so, first time since I had it on PS2 like 15 years ago and not even the special edition at that. It's so fucking good. The gameplay, the enemy designs (except for the Fallen, fuck those dickwheels), the memeability of Vergil (Foolishness, Dante! Foolishness!). It really is the perfect game, even if I probably prefer the first one. What could possibly be gained from continuing on. It's true, I've heard nothing particularly bad about DMCV, but even so, could it be any way but down from here? And I've heard very quesitonable things about DMC4 and DmC. Apparently in DMC4 the story senario backtracks and make you fight all the same bosses when you switch from Nero to Dante? Yikes. From what I hear Lady doesn't have a particularly large role in either 4 or 5, which would be a disgustingly poor story choice since Lady is the greatest female video game character of all time. Her age also seems very young compared to my understanding of where 5 fits in the franchise's overall timeline.

Tl;dr, Ghostbusters 2 is a fun movie, but I think I'd appreciate the original more if I'd never seen it.

4 and 5 are great and you should play them.

Sure Lady plays less of a role, but it's not her story.

Imo 3 and 5 are about the same in terms of overall quality, but if I had to choose one as my favorite though I'd choose 5.

4 is overall worse but introduces a new mechanic which is fun. Replaying the levels isn't that bad. Dante plays completely different.

5 is actually mechanically better than 3 but everything else is worse. Theres multiple characters to play but you may not like their different playstyles. I outright dont like Vs levels. Dante and Nero are at their best though. The level designs are mostly terrible which is kind of disappointing.

Anyway, I'd say both are worth playing.

I did not care for DmC. It plays very differently. Like the series had a baby with God of War. It's not the worst game but it's the worst in the series. Dante is more laughable in this one but tbh hes often been cringey, just a little more so in this one.

Yeah, don't bother with DmC. It's got a couple of interesting things, but it's otherwise such a watering down, and the edgy tone doesn't do it any favors.

Haven't played it so I have no real, informed comment, but on the face of it, I can't imagine any game in this franchise is as bad as DMC2.

The chicks rarely have any relevance outside of the games that introduced them, but I'm surprised 3 made you like her so much when all she did was job and finish off her father. 4's backtracking sucked, but I found DMC4 Dante so much more fun that it didn't bother me as much. 5 is my favorite DMC because it's DMC4 Dante on steroids and two other characters that I also enjoy.

I'd recommend both even if you think DMC3 can't be topped.

Playing as Dante in 4 and 5 is a stupid amount of fun, theres so much going on with him. Nero is also a nice change of pace. V is ok too I guess.

Lady is amazing and criminally underused in 5, but the same game introduces Nico who is almost as cool on top of being hilarious.

I LOVED 3 and nothing else compares.

I traded in 4 because it didn't feel fun. Apparently the second half is a rehash of the first part but with a new character.

5...I thought was good but what disappointed me was how easy the first playthrough is. Very easy and almost insulting. Graphically, the game looks good and the gameplay is better.

In conclusion no game can replicate the mastery of Devil May Cry 3.

Would you say no game is worthy as DMC3's opponent?

You're right. DMC2 is the worst game in the franchise. DmC's at least fun, despite being a downgrade from DMC4's gameplay.

You're right. DMC2 is the worst game in the franchise. DmC's at least fun, despite being a downgrade from DMC4's gameplay.

This, basically. DmC would've been ten times better if it hadn't been a darker, edgier reboot. It had some really cool level design and one of the most memorable boss fights in modern times (think Bill O'Reilly as a giant floating head).

The problem was the tone, character design, and story were all significant downgrades from the original universe. I also wasn't a big fan of the color matching minigame that forced you to use specific weapons on enemies.

Yeah even with it's faults DmC is still better than 2. The gameplay was at least somewhat fun unlike DMC2.

As for 4 and 5, 4 is kind of hit or miss. I personally didn't like playing as Nero in 4 as much as did with DMC3 + 4 Dante (especially after you have to go back to him after playing as Dante) and while I didn't mind the backtracking with Dante + fighting most of the same bosses it's certainly something that can be a turn off (still enjoyed the game overall though). 5 is great though. Dante is fun to play as like usual, and Nero had some improvements that made him much more fun to play as (unfortunately V was boring to play as, but at least he had less playable chapters than Nero + Dante).

DMC3 is still the best overall imo since it has the best story, but 5 isn't that far behind it imo.

I think Beowulf is kind of a bad boss. His health pool is massive, staggering him via his eye doesn't actually give you a safe zone since his flailing can still hit you and is aimed directly in front of him which is where you'd be if you hit his eye, his homing missile attack is absurd to dodge without trickster and the cages that drop from the celling can anticipate where you're moving towards when dropping, even that you were gonna use a movement ability to dodge them. Cerberus can do something similar with his ice chunks, but at least he's much less egregious in other ways.
