I know rent is pricey in NYC, and even though this girl whose place I went to the other day is paying only $800, all she has is a little bedroom. When I move out, I'd rather have my own place for $2,000/month in a decent or nice area.

Lived at home paying rent until I was 22, then put a down payment on a pretty inexpensive house, and got it paid off by 25.

First apartment at 20, house at 28.

After 18, yes. I honestly forget what I paid, but it definitely wasn't comparable to apartment rent. It was mostly just enough to cover my existence while saving enough to get my savings to the point where I could afford the down payment and slog through the payments as quickly as possible.

I was paying $900/month rent to live at an apartment with my mom. Got a career job and moved out at 24, 1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment.

First apartment was at 25. Bought my house at 31.

Right when I turned 18. Still in highschool, rent was only like....475 a month so one part timer was all I needed to make rent

Rented a place (not my own, shared with a girl I knew as a flatmate) at 23 when I got my first proper "career" job after university. Bought first house at 30 with my now wife (not the same girl!).

I just moved into my first brand new house a week ago (age 30).

I owned my first house where I lived for over 8 years then sold it back in September. It was a piece of shit but I knew I had to own something when I was younger if I never wanted to eventually own something nice. It took over 8 years to finally get here.

I inherited a bit of money when I was 19 and used it to buy my first falling apart 50 year old house at 21. Helps that it also went up roughly 30-40% in total value since I owned it. Everything where I live is too damn expensive

24 when I got my own apartment.

I moved out of my Mom's place just before I turned 18 but I moved into my girlfriend's parents place. We got our own apartment at 20.

i graduated uni dec. 2004. aug-dec. 2004 i had my own place at 21, turned 22.

january-february 2005 i lived with my folks.
late february i started working and lived with an aunt and uncle for 6 weeks.
april i moved in with my brother until August
then got my own place again and have been on my own since.

it was a 3 bedroom for $1500 a month. Had to have 2 other roommates to make it work since I was making like $12 an hour

Im in my late 20s and I still live with my parents out of laziness. I have a pretty good job too

All throughout my 20s I rented rooms in other people's houses. I bought my own one bed one bath condo one day before my 33rd birthday. Got lucky too, the guy who sold it just wanted to get rid of it so I got it for a good price and kept all the dishes and furniture that was already here.

at 19 i took a room at a friends house. learned i cant deal with roommates at all and rented a house a year later.

Hard to say exactly. I lived with my brother on our own in early 20's... But that was only because my parents moved and let us stay at home. It was technically our place, but they owned it and I split the bills with my brother. Even after my parents moved back they renovated our barn into an apartment for themselves and left us at "our" place.

If that doesn't count, then I guess never. I'm saving up once again to try and find my own place away from them, but we'll see.

18 but my parents paid my rent while I was in college.

My mom left us when I was 16. By 17 I had already had a job, had my own apartment with my gf and was getting ready to graduate.

I pretty much have been on my own since junior year.
