she is telling me to chill and to forget it, but im trying to find out the legality of it

Contact the police because it is definitely illegal what they did. Depending on your state could mean more charges then others (such as New Hampshire and Rhode Island both prohibit individuals under 18 years old from buying or owning a paintball gun).
