  • long periods of time with no dialogue and very slow paced western
  • cant see the main characters face
  • lots of references casual fans wouldnt know
i'm a fan and i think disney got this right. but i feel for the first two episodes they went super unorthodox and off the book. super looking forward to what else happens in the show tho

If they were trying to make a statement about the original content Disney+ will have I think they were successful

it definitely feels a lot less safe than it could

ffs the main character cuts someone in half in the first five minutes. Did not expect that

the 2nd episode was slow in parts, but i liked the second half

i also thought the action scene with the jawas/heavy duty vehicle while cool, was ultimately pointless

completely agreed, it's almost as if they listened to fans about having a bit of a darker/adult star wars and disney+ delivered that with a slower paced and more backstory filled TV show. it'll will appeal more to the harder SW fans which surprises me because i thought they would be super safe with the mandalorian

and speaking of, i still don't know what a mandalorian is haha. i watched a youtube explainer vid and it went into an insane amount of detail that i switched off and will just rely on watching the show

yeah i mean i get that, but i don't know much about the actual race

for example where they live, if they're all as logical and reserved as he is, the armour and significance of it, their whole place in the SW universe, etc

Mandalorians are a culture now. The Mandalorian himself is an orphan raised by some Mandalore tribe.

i mean it's definitely interesting and different from the other shows out there. plus it helps that there's a lot of money into the production and visuals, it's p much cinematic level

it just feels so weird, and maybe a tiny bit off? you don't get much from the main character. he's reserved, cold but you go along with the adventure he's on

There's a ton of backstory to them pre and post-Disney acquisition, but really all you need to know about Mandalorians is that exchange from episode 2:

"You need to drop your rifle."
"I'm a Mandalorian; weapons are part of my religion."

While I wouldn't say it's high drama so far, it's been more enjoyable for me than any Star Wars stuff since the OT. Maybe because it's so out of the way of the movies (so far), or maybe--keeping in line with the first point--because the protagonist is clearly not the chosen one and he gets into some desperate situations when he's not up against someone who's intimidated by the armor and one liners.

And the soundtrack is...interesting. Still not sure if it really fits or not, but the theme has been stuck in my head the past few days.

I feel very similar. The isolation from the usual Star Wars theatrics is a very different feeling thing and I think I like it. It's a dude going about his bounty hunter life post-Empire and just stumbled into a mess.

Also yeah, that song has definitely been stuck in my head. The part when the show drops the title and episode name gets a strong reaction from me, especially the 2nd episode.

*Da dun*
"The Mandalorian"
*Da dun*
"Chapter 2: The Child"

Also the endings with the concept art is a fine touch. The whole soundtrack is on Spotify for those interested.

It's mostly background stuff like aliens you've seen before. Nothing in your face.

Do they actually show the cutting in half or does the screen cutaway? Is there a pool of blood on the ground or gore?

Because If not then its safe. I havent seen the show yet only the previews. And I dont expect to have a omg Im surprised they went there reaction with a Disney show. I assume it was pretty tame and the action happened quick and was just enough to get the viewers pumped

Mandalorians are humans that originate from the planet Mandalore or one of its colonies.

For a very long time Mandalorians were a legendary warrior people, with their distinctive Beskar armor. At their peak they had considerable influence over thousands of other planets and their conquering ways lead them into frequent conflict with the Jedi Order. Eventually they were beaten back by the Jedi and over the years the society transitioned into a neutral pacifist world. Some "true Mandalorians" resisted the turn from their warrior routes and formed a group called the Death Watch, located on the moon of Concord Dawn.

Clone Wars spoilers:

Death Watch and Mandalore come to a head during the Clone Wars. With the Death Watch finally gaining an upper-hand by allying itself with Maul's criminal organization, The Shadow Collective, Maul eventually usurped Mandalorian leadership and took over Mandalore until he was defeated by the Galactic Republic allied with Mandalorian rebel factions.

After the Clone Wars the Empire came down hard on Mandalore as they wanted a race of legendary war people under their control. They strongly suppressed their people and culture. Many Mandalorian clans lead guerrilla strikes against the Empire sometimes aiding the Alliance to Restore the Republic. But Mandalore as a unified people groups was pretty well shattered.

Along the way there was a highly-skilled bounty hunter named Jango Fett. He acquired a set of durasteel (not beskar) Mandalorian armor and claimed he was from the moon of Condord Dawn. The Mandalorian government has deemed him a pretender and not a Mandalorian.

***Spoilers***

Its not a Yoda origin story though. Its 5 years after Return of the Jedi, meaning Yoda has been dead for 5 years. Its a young member of Yoda and Yaddles species.

Anyways, love the show.

If you watch The Clone Wars it has a few episodes that deal heavily with Mandalor and their culture. Basically, the Mandalorians were a warrior race, who fought the Jedi for years. Their armor and gadgets are designed to combat Jedi. Eventually they moved away from the warrior lifestyle and that divided the people. Some still held to the warrior lifestyle.
