Im in middle management and it looks like theyre trimming all that away. Its a raw deal though because theyre not just getting rid of us but replacing the position with the one just below me.... and not offering the job. Like, we have to apply, along with internal and external candidates, for the position that we ourselves do and manage.

The fact they wont phase the position out or automatically offer us the replacement gig is shitty. So while the clock ticks down to losing my job I have to wait while they dick around with the application and interview process. The severance is shit too, and it goes away if they offer a position and you decline... the danger there being they could offer the level 1 version with shit pay when really my current job and skills would be a level 4. But if I decline that massive pay decrease, lol no severance.

Pretty jaded with this entire experience. Ironically they have had us pushing digital/automation on customers and customers would joke it would cost my job. I would joke back because I figured my job was secure seeing as if it went away I was already basically the position below me but on steroids. Jokes on me I guess.

It's a horrible experience.

My wife got laid off from Boeing a year ago and it sucked. Relatively no warning and she got depressed for a good while as she searched for a new opportunity.

Wishing you the best, man. Don't ever blame yourself for it, even if it takes you a while to find other employment. The job market just sucks.

Huh? So are video interviews a thing now? And not live, but recorded?

Did a few applications where they have me download an app and record myself answering interview questions. It felt weird. I guess this is how things are now, with people growing up and constantly recording themselves in Youtube, snapchat, instagram, et etc. For me though its out of my comfort zone.

That sucks OP, our company got purchased back in April by a big multinational. About half of us are gone now, and once they finish stripping us of our IP, we'll get the boot. I think my end date is end of march.

It's not entirely uncommon. A lot of it is to see how well you can perform if your job would involve interacting face to face with people
