I think one of the only skills I legitimately have is being able to type fairly well, but I never applied towards a typing position. Curious what typists on CE thinks...

Yeah, I see that apparently the common typist usually reaches around 50-60 wpm, but then I also see sometimes within the same post that you're only considered 'good' once you reach around 90 wpm, so I feel like I'm receiving mixed signals. I would presume 'good' would be like 70 wpm for a common typist.

I doubt I could work as a stenographer, those guys usually hit like upwards of 200 wpm. Maybe with training, but I feel like I'm good enough to have some sort of secretarial job and would rather not have to train for a position.

Yeah, I dunno. Like I said in the aforementioned post, I see people posting wild gaps of what's considered 'poor,' 'average,' and 'good.'

Depends on what you're needing the skill for. Unless it is something like a stenographer, 50+ is fine for most white collar jobs.

From what I've seen the gaps in most people I've worked with tend to be the biggest between those who can type decently & those who have no skill at all.

I type like 90 wpm at home and 80 wpm at work (work keyboard and desk not really optimal though, I just use what they gave me instead of being extra and bringing my own)

Id say Im better than most but nothing exceptional

Its not pure typing, its a specific skill, theres codes where a few keystrokes do full phrases and keys are pressed simultaneously and weirdness like that

If you can comfortably type 60wpm, I think you'll be fine for most jobs outside of Courtroom clerk.

I just took a test for the first time in years since I got a new mech keyboard... a solid 100 wpm. Surprised I can still type that fast. Has felt like I've gotten a lot slower over the years.

Id say like 50-60

edit: totally random, but I used to work with this one lady that was very ditsy and came off as blonde for lack of a better term, but god damn she was the fastest typer Ive ever personally seen. I remember when she was typing up her 2 week letter in the office, and she pumped out 2 paragraphs in like 3 mins or something crazy like that
