The games offer a huge variety of playstyles. I guess it just has something for everyone if you're into it

The gameplay is super basic and still hasnt evolved since Red and Blue

In fact, the only substantial changes to the series are graphic based, but even then were not talking leaps and bounds here.

Idk man, the 5th gen sprites and animations looked great.

And for a 3DS game, Pokemon XY and SuMo look pretty damn good imo. And I'd hardly say that Diamond/Pearl looked bad for the DS either.

I think that Pokemon, for its platform at the time, has always looked pretty good, with the exception of Sword/Shield. But it's clear that the company is not interested in making a console Pokemon experience. It is making a handheld Pokemon experience with a $60 price tag.

But beyond that there's also the worldbuilding, music, and of course the character designs and art direction (not just for the Pokemon but also for the human characters). They put a lot into designing content for the games and IMO art direction has always been their strong point

I wouldnt expect the series to look like God of War, but there is reason to expect better quality than theyve provided. This is the biggest money maker, even if most of the revenue comes from other areas. I dont think Gamefreak has the capacity to make a high budget console game due to their mostly portable focus all this time. Even with the Switch being comparatively underpowered, it should be able to pull off more than theyve shown.
