Me: I wonder if there will even be much change over which sites are on here over the last 4 years?

I don't think I had one of those. Hotmail was the one I used back then.

I still have the same hotmail address that I made in 1999.

Well, the top 10 at the end consists of all free services. Places to look stuff up. So in that regard, it makes sense over a website that people use to spend money.

Not to mention that Amazon has things like those Dash buttons now, where you can order daily items without visiting the site.

How is yahoo beating google??? I guess the late 90s/early 00s were too much to catch up. But even then, there were exponentially less people online. Billions less. Someone help me understand

For a long time, Yahoo was the one stop shop for a lot of information online. It was possibly the most widely used email provider prior to gmail and after AOLs peak (that or hotmail, Id imagine). People would go there for news. It was still a popular search engine. It had the most popular form of fantasy sports online.

Ultimately, Google crushed Yahoo, but Yahoo was the biggest online name for a long time after the internet first started becoming accessible to everyone.

Also what exactly is this measuring? I noticed numbers would actually go down, so it's not tracking overall clicks/visits.

Edit: nvm it's the number of visits every day in a month. I assumed this was tracking all visits from the inception of the site up until now, which is why I was confused with numbers going down. I thought "WTF, how does a website lose a visit?"

It's so interesting that Myspace failed. On paper, it seems like it should have won. Myspace offered people more freedom and creativity. There were more customization options, there was endless variety, and it was the bigger website. But people fled it like a sinking ship to go to the more bare bones, rigid, and restrictive platform. It's the opposite of what you'd expect to happen. I guess because everyone used all that freedom to make shitty vomit inducing webpages that wouldn't stop playing music. Did "the customer is always right" actually destroy Myspace?
