the problem with the 94 AWB was that it mainly targeted long guns which already have the lowest death counts so total homicides effected were negligible. the effect of mass shootings which were already rare to begin with was also negligible. 8 to 6 is like saying the AU buyback was successful because mass shootings went from 1 to 0 (and firearm deaths in general were already in decline a number of years prior to the buyback). thats not a large enough pool of data to say otherwise especially when total firearm homicides remained consistent while handguns took up the slack of any effects rifles had.

the uptick in mass shootings prior to the end of the AWB is also sketchy when the means to carry out large massacres were still in place during the AWB (the third largest mass shooting in US history was still done with handguns that used low/standard capacity mags at that and one of the largest mass shootings by a single individual in world history was done with a rifle that was left off the 94 AWB. similarly that mass shooting in cremia killed 21 with a shotgun). the only thing thats really changed was increased popularity of the internet and social media which makes it easier to radicalize individuals that want to carry out evil acts which turns the whole thing into a societal problem rather than an AR or AK which have been largely unchanged and in civilians hands for 60+ years or the invention of semi-autos which have been in civilian hands for 130+ years.

Well it's more like nothing will be done about it because it's too controversial for most politicians to take a hard stand on. It's easier to take on at the state level.

The 2nd amendment should be modified to absolve all federal responsibilities of guns, and unrestricted authority to the states to permit or allow.

And yet nothing will be done about it because for some reason gang violence isn't a major priority for politicians...

"Mass shootings" tend to be more common in heavily impoverished areas with a high population density such as Chicago or Detroit, and usually involve weapons that were illegally obtained by people who would have been unable to purchase them legally.

This exactly. Its sobering.
