First match, would have to think about it if it were Super Arrange, but it's not.

You're My Number One is fun, but it's probably one of the weaker Sonic R vocals imho. It might stand a chance again some of Shallie's slate regardless, but not Octopunch.

i uhhhh actively hate SmashU's Aria of the Soul it's kinda missing everything I love about the original sorry >_> Cosmos Eternal takes its sweet time, that's for sure, but once it gets there it's cool.

Snubs Round 3 has started... that means we're approximately 3/4 of the way through, right? Also, wow... the first match is a real heavy-hitter.

Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star - Hidra Heteromycin - Wait a minute... this isn't the version of Silver Will that I'm used to hearing... I love the retired version, but my impression of this one is NOT good. It feels so mechanical and stiff compared to the original. I absolutely adore HH.. I didn't get into VGMC until after this track retired, so I feel lucky to get a chance to vote for it! I love the hellish bass guitars and the the syncopated vocal melodies, followed by the angelic singing, etc.

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea - Octopunch

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Aria of the Soul - I like this way more than that Battle for the Soul (or whatever it's called) that retired! Cosmoc Eternal isn't bad, but it's kind of boring for most of it. The last minute is great, though!

My opinion on hidra has historically fluctuated a lot, lately I've just been *mostly* positive on it but the things i like it for give it a distinct edge in this match against another song i also find myself mixed on

Accordionpunch. It's too bad it doesn't grab me outside of that but i guess it didn't have much of a chance after you're my #1 and also I've just never gotten the hype for it :/

Aria of the Soul fails as an arrangement at capturing the appeal (soul) of persona music, but it has a surprising amount of appeal in its own right. Unfortunately it's up against something next-level basically

Silver Will is VERY COOL best version of the song by a long shot!!! Hidra is really cool too but doesn't live up to a number of the other vocal songs in EXA_PICO like at all. Fun fact Eiichiro Yanagi who composed Hidra is actually also the person "Takahide Murayama" that was a Falcom sound team jdk member and worked on Trails in the Sky FC!! He did Pinch!! and Go in Good Cheer.... and also The Enforcers that lost in snubs oops.

Octopunch is my 5th favorite song in the hummanahummana (world)! Everything about this song makes me want to drop what I'm doing and JUST go CR AZY buhblubhluGO STUPID yanagawa uses literally every single one of his instruments that I absolutely fucking adore and then some like WHAT IS THIS FUCKING HARD TECHNO BASS DRUM WHO LET YOU USE THIS, and then at 1:13 WHAT IS THIS. YANAGAWA WHAT THE EVERYLOVING FUNK ARE YOU DOING WITH THIS S*EX BASS PART WHAT??????? HELLO?????????? This song just absolutely gushes energy and liquified fun from every note of every instrument and goddamn I could never get enough of it. It sucks so much that I have to vote against another song that I love a lot lot lot here (seriously, shoutouts to not only You're My Number One but every sonic r song honestly lmao) but yeah Octopunch just absolutely punches my lights out wowie zowie

okay on the other hand of a literal 10/10 top tier song we have this sad round 3 match seriously how. aria of the soul is like a pretty cool remix at some parts and at other parts a completely bullshit Oh Shit What Are You Doing remix. Cosmos is somehow completely uninteresting for its entire runtime, which when you're 10 minutes long is too ridiculous. i kinda feel bad going the "mainstream" pick here but like yeah. damn.

My opinion of Hidra Heteromycin has significantly improved upon my first impressions. Haste_2 put it best about how I feel about this version of Silver Will. The better version would've made this match a lot closer, but I still would've voted for HH.



Aria of the Soul I chose more as a popularity pick than as a personal favorite from the soundtrack, but it's still my favorite Persona representation in Smash. Cosmos Eternal is a neat jam session that maybe overstays its welcome a little bit, but is still cool. Close match.

MATCH 1

Holy hell why is Hidra Heteromycin so good? This right now is my Ar nosurge flavor of the month, which means I regularly listen to this song a lot currently. The j-rock/metal style of this song is always much appreciated by me, but this song adds some extra things to it that is very much to my tastes to make this even better. Going chronologically, 0:10-0:34 is really great with the chanting and violin. The vocals from 1:31-2:42 are just amazing and one of the main highlights of this song for me. It's like Yuki Kajiura in Godsibb but even better. I love the melody, but I especially love the vocal harmonizing going on. The guitar solo starting at 3:05 is really nice too. Having the drums and guitar added back to that slower part at 4:15 is a nice touch as well. All-around incredible song that I'd probably vote for over at least 90% of the songs in this contest. Likely more than that, to be honest. Kinda wish I could go back in time to VGMC12 and cast a vote for Hidra Heteromycin for the finals match, as much as I like Sunshine Coastline. Really happy that this song was able to show up.

Not sure how most people feel about this Silver Will vs. the Super Arrange version, but I happen to like this version more. I actually like this song a lot. 0:04-0:15 is really nice with all the layered instruments coming together. The main violin melody is really nice as well. I think that when I first heard this song, I didn't like it as much as I do now, but it got better the more I listened to it. This would definitely be a strong contender in most matches, but Hidro Heteromycin is way too good to pass up here.

MATCH 2

You're My Number One is probably my favorite Sonic R song. I really like the melody in the vocals and it's just a nice, upbeat song to listen to.

Despite me putting it at #3, Octopunch might actually be one of the weaker Shallie songs in the list for me? I put it this high because to my memory, it performed well in VGMC in the past and people seem to like it a lot. I do like it a lot too, even if it's not as good as some other select songs from the game, so me saying it's one of the weaker ones doesn't actually mean all that much lol. It does mean that the match is surprisingly a bit close and perhaps the closest I've been to voting against my own nomination, but I still like Octopunch slightly more. I like the instrumentation a lot. It feels very..."Mediterranean" if I had to describe it in a word. I don't know, that's just the first word that comes to mind lol.

MATCH 3

While I think they're good, I can't say that I really like the original or Smash versions of Aria of the Soul. They're nice to listen to, but something about those two songs just holds them back for me. The guitar solo in the Smash version is pretty nice, though.

Cosmos Eternal's just not my kind of song. I liked the more indie rock sounding stuff that came from the previous songs that showed up from this game, but this one's just "10 minute long jazz fusion piece" and that's generally not the type of song I tend to enjoy.

it's called both. Battle for Everyone's Souls is the literal translation, Battle Hymn of the Soul is the localized one. I'm fond of the localized one, to be honest -- especially because everyone calls the base track Aria of the Soul, not "The Poem for Everyone's Souls."

Tough first match. Hidra has some great parts, but I feel like it doesn't live up to its potential. Silver Will is real good, but not as good as Super Arrange I think.

Octopunch isn't one of my favorite Ateliers or anything, but YMNO is fucking awful. Ew. And Octopunch is still quite good.

Not sure I'd say Aria of the Soul is better than the original, but it's good. Cosmos Eternal is barely even a song. Feels like a jam session or something.
