Demi Moore has said she was raped at the age of 15 in her home, by a man who claimed to have paid her mother $500.

After he had raped her, Moore alleges he said her mother had sold her to him. In the book, she writes: It was rape. And a devastating betrayal, revealed by the mans cruel question: how does it feel to be whored by your mother for $500?

Moores mother was an alcoholic who, according to Moore, took her to bars when she was a teenager so that men would notice them. She died in 1998.

Asked if she believed the man, she said: I think, in my deep heart no. I dont think it was a straightforward transaction. But she still did give him the access, and put me in harms way.

You have to understand that until I think the mid 1990s, child sexual exploitation didn't really... matter in terms of how it was seen. It was mostly "just shut up about it"
The idea of child sexual abuse/rape was a bit like how people looked at someone who was mentally ill. It was easier for their reputation to say that person was sick at home instead of sending them to get help.
It was the same thing with child abuse. Especially because child abuse was a taboo topic. You just kept your kids away from the creepy old dude.

It's not that so many have been abused but that it's coming to light now because for a long time it was both accepted and hidden

she hosted a show for awhile called i survived evil. telling stories of regular people who survived attacks by dangerous people like mass murderers

I've said this before in another topic, but anyone with close female friends can tell you that the rape/sexual assault statistics, if anything, are in fact probably still under-reported even if you look at the studies that report numbers as high as one-third of women experiencing it (one of which I think was posted in this topic).

Ok. But just for the sake of clarity... when she says raped, are we talking about someone holding her down and physically assaulting her? Or are we talking about a statutory rape situation where now looking back shes decided that she was too young to really give consent in a situation where she capitulated because of an imbalance in the power dynamic of their age gap?

Or are we talking about a statutory rape situation where now looking back shes decided that she was too young to really give consent in a situation where she capitulated because of an imbalance in the power dynamic of their age gap?
