Disc Advantage:
1. Can trade game for money towards new purchase. Pro.
2. May borrow the game to other users an unlimited amount of times per year. Pro.
3. Comes with a plastic/metal case, as well as art and a booklet; a physical representation of your property. Pro.

Digital Advantage:
1. Digital purchase can never stop working due to scratches/age. Pro
3. Digital purchases load immediately without need to keep track of dozens of physical discs and disc swapping between games. Pro.
2. Digital purchase can be played on two Xboxs simultaneously, however this feature is heavily negatively clouded by the 5 times per year limit of designating your friends Xbox the rights to your titles. Pro/Con Wash.

Can someone explain to me why we are allowing the gaming industry to charge us the same price for digital as they charge for disc games? Even though it costs them less money to manufacture digital games because they dont have to outsource a factory to major millions of discs, cases, and pamphlets? As well; disc purchase has 3 pros to digitals 2 pros?

Because if they priced the games lower on their digital storefront they'd almost definitely lost shelf space at all major retailers.

Also, doesn't it actually cost them money to put their game on the XBOX/PSN/Steam Game stores? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if so, they are trading one cost for another at the end of the day. It still may be cheaper digitally but I'm just saying that it's still costing them something.

30% cut goes to the storefront, vs a 50% or more cut along the way through the retail logistics chain.

A lot of places offer discounts on new games. Has this had any negative effect? If anything if you know where to shop digital is almost always more expensive at first

Got it, so there's still a cost there. A reduced cost but a cost none the less.

There's no "should" here. If you think disc is a better deal buy disc. If enough people do that then the price of digital may go down, but it seems like people are fine paying full price for digital

It's a bit deeper than that.
A $60 game on a digital storefront is $42 to the publisher.
A $60 game at retail is roughly $30 after all the retail middlemen, and that's not even considering manufacturing and packaging costs.

Go google around. It gets interesting.
