I am in Riverside, CA and the humidity was around 55% today.

Apparently in New York, it was also around 55% humidity however, the feels like temperarture was like 15 degrees above the normal temperature. How is this the case? Here in Riverside, the feels like was the same as the normal temperature.

You are speaking about relative humidity.
Which is to say, how much water can the air hold at a certain temperture.

The air becomes oppressively humid once it gets the to 70% mark.

Which is to say, the air is holding about 70% of the moisture it can before it gets to the point when it will start to rain.

Today in upstate NY it went from straight up tropical to now a somewhat pleasant and almost crisp Fall evening.

Living near a river in the midwest is the fucking worst. We've had a bunch of days in the high 90's both temperature and humidity wise.

It's like the air is sweating on you.
