I went to America (North and South Dakota specifically. Montana too but it wasn't as bad) last week and it was kinda disgusting. Trash all over the sidewalks and every few kilometers there was food dumped out the window on the highway.
Don't even get me started on the cigarette butts or the stuff in the malls. Literally two meters from a garbage (all of which seemed to be overflowing at all times) had candy wrappers and soda cans strewn.

WTF is with this. It was absolutely disgusting. No respect for anything down there garbador

You will find streams and backwoods areas just full of shit from illegal dumping hicks. Literally saw a 60in TV sitting in the middle of a stream from some dumbass that just dropped it off a bridge

Cause the law isn't that harsh against it? IIRC Japan is super harsh on littering, so even when there aren't that many trash cans around other than at vending machines, people don't litter.

There is actually a ton of trash cans, at least in Tokyo. Every convience store had one outside and there was 3 convience store on every block

Tokyo has no trashcans on the street and is completely clean. Has nothing to do with the city but with the society itself.

It's worse in cities because homeless people are generally incapable of putting trash in a trash can. It's like whatever mental issue they have that is holding them back, also makes it impossible for them to clean up after themselves.

One of the bigger reasons, at least here in Portland, is that the public trash cans never get emptied so they get really full and shit starts falling out
