Playing quickplay solo is miserable. So many games where 4-5 DPS are picked. It's just not fun.

In theory it'll add stability, and make way for a rework of Brig. In reality... Who's ready for flank hog, dive and demeched dva, dps Moira, battle mercy, double sniper comps every match?

Also, rip hamster+3dps+2 healers/ hamster+4 dps+healer comps, when they worked it was amazing since you could snowball the enemy team with just a single ult if you use the right cooldown to make sure the enemies lost the right units.

i'm 100% sure it won't be applied to quickplay and like 90% sure it won't even be applied to competitive, it's just a bandage for goats in OWL

The best way to fix Overwatch is to delete roles, redesign everyone so it doesn't matter what combinations of heroes you have and make it purely skill based.

i find it weird that people constantly bitch about dpses everywhere
i've always gotten a variety of characters in quick play, including the obsessive healer one-tricks and overzealous winstons

the real cancer of quickplay is the amount of people who wont shoot an enemy torb turret even if you offered them $100

Top 3 examples of why it's cancer:

1) "I have all golds you guys suck" screamed the Reaper who wraith formed through the choke point and in front of the enemy bastion 2 times in the first minute on attack. You know, meaning that even if they have gold damage (as a high burst damage dps character), they died so much that the enemies constantly got free ultimates from him because he never secured a kill (yay enemy healer ult) and he fed by dying (yay enemy tank/ dps ult) and his ultimates require a bit of assistance to initiate or clean up a fight, if used after his teammates die it won't actually secure the objective.

2) "DPS aren't getting kills" screamed the Rein/ Orisa who never pushed up on attack and on both attack and defense would flee the moment they took more than 50 damage, UNLESS they had a pocket Mercy. Tanks have two roles, first is to make space for dps (shields, body blocking, ultimates and cooldowns that displace or stick enemies in a single place) and the second role of a tank is to help dps finish off picks/ give dps weakened targets to focus.

3) "It's just a game, why take it so seriously" screamed the guy who went Widow with a 7% win rate all season and an average of <2000 enemy damage/10 minutes, who then swaps to Mei ice wall your team on control maps when the enemy team is at 80% or more.

I'm not sure it'll come to ranked at the same time it comes to OWL, since there would need to be a role queue with it. We might have a while longer to wait.

It definitely wouldn't kick in until next season even if it hits the OWL before that time. Of course, the best way to handle it would be an actual MMR reset, or at least an "anything from before the last season you finished placements in is wiped" situation. Otherwise, we will end up with DPS and healer one tricks who have all of the roles initially rank at the same amount when that's clearly not the case.

Also I'm leaning towards them just getting out Overwatch 2 with major rebalance overhaul

If only there were a role for characters that are specialized in protecting an area, that can hold the fort better than others... I dunno, maybe something like a "defense" role?

Sombra goats since EMP is usually a fight winner when you're running goats. More importantly, sombra ult is one of the fastest to charge at the pro level because of the damage output they can manage.

what overwatch really needs to do is completely rework all their maps to not make them all so chokepoint-heavy. at least at the low (ranked) lvl i played at, every match in overwatch eventually devolves into deathball vs deathball and that isnt very fun.

in another comp game like LoL or Dota 2 or whatever you have the jungle, you can split push, etc so matches are much more dynamic but in overwatch it feels like every round is "can we stop this deathball at the chokepoint or not". not fun as a competitive game, not fun as a solo queue game, etc. kind of a shame because i love overwatch conceptually

Goats is pretty much dead in OWL after all the nerfs outside of the couple top teams who are really good at 3/3 and not good with dps comps. The teams running dps comps especially with sombra have been giving the 3/3s a lot of trouble

There hasn't been an official announcement, but an OWL player who retired recently said that he knew it was being introduced in the near future

I know that there was once a defense role but that didnt encompass the characters like Sombra, Mei, and Junkrat that didn't strictly fill in their roles.

Mei is great at locking down an area
Junkrat, too, especially when his shots would linger
