It's crazy because I'm not doing grunt work. I get to be inventive, clever, and autonomous, but it still sucks.

Did you go to college? Are you pursuing what you intended?

If so, what did you anticipate, compared to what do you hate about it?

Same here bro. I just dont care about it. It's like a dirty secret I have. I am a high level executive and very successful but every minute I am at work I just want to get out and go home. I'm only there for a check.

The music industry isn't a bad place to work, you get to listen to music all day, hang out with burnouts and smoke weed.

If you asked me what i'd be doing once I got my degree, it sure as fuck wouldn't be this, but I wouldn't trade it for anything at this point.

You just gotta find your thing, man.

I've had a pretty big variety of jobs and I tend to agree. I think I just don't like the concept of wasting so much of my life on work. You slave away for five days a week, and for what? To maybe do something fun on the weekend, or maybe once or twice a year you get to take a decent vacation if you earn enough and budget your money well. It wears you down, though. I mostly feel too burnt out to do anything I really enjoy during the week, not to mention there's not a lot of actual time left when you factor in sleep and other responsibilities. I just feel like the work to actual living ratio isn't worth it. I'd feel worthless as a NEET, but I can't shake the feeling that life is just so much effort for so little reward.

For me it's weird, because with every job I've had there's been a sort of "honeymoon period." Might last 3-6 months or up to a year. Basically a time where the expectations for the job are extremely reasonable, your boss is chill, all your coworkers are friendly and get along nicely with you. Then somewhere along the line the atmosphere just changes. It seems like the workload always gets piled on, so you end up doing twice as much for the same pay or just a small increase (not enough to make it worth it obviously). There's always some kind of drama or people overall just stop treating you as good. Boss becomes shitty to deal with, etc. Maybe my attitude just gets worse the longer I stay with a company, that's the only explanation I can come up with.

Agree with all of the bolded. I swear it's like owners and management can't stand when a company is doing pretty well AND the employees are happy. They have to fuck up the work environmemt somehow. Probably some shitty tactic they use to get some long time employees to quit so they can free up work hours, can pay new hires considerably less AND offer no benefits. Totally wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. After all the CEO absolutely needs another yacht and more money he'll never end up needing and spending for the rest of his life. >_>

I've been self employed since 2011, full-time since 2016, and I love it. Sure there are days where I'd rather hang out at home and play a video game but there will always be days like that.
