Stay as blind as possible. Cooking is fairly broken, so keep it to a minimum if you don't want easy mode. Random exploration is super fun if you like that. Don't worry about trying to conserve weapons for long.

Just explore and have a good time. The towers will unlock the map. If for whatever reason youre really bugged by the weapon system, bum rush getting 13 hearts which is a stipulation for the Master Sword.

A lot of people wonder which dungeons to do first. Guess it depends on which ability you want early. They all have their uses.

So it's completely open world? No real linearity?

Yeah. After the initial tutorial area its 100% open. You could go straight to fight the last boss if so inclined.

You have a tutorial section, and then after that you're free to go right to the final boss if you want.

The best advice I can give is to ignore what the internet says about the game. Go in as blind as you can as exploring and discovering is literally what makes the game fun. Don't have this ruined. You will also hear vocal minorities trash talk the graphics/music/combat......ignore these as well. Breath of the Wild is almost universally agreed upon to be one of the greatest games of all time. There are a lot trolls who would have you believe it is a bad game when that is obviously not so. You will likely find little nitpicks you wish were a little different as one would with any game but as a whole the experience is unlike anything else and deserves all the praise it gets. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did my 1st playthrough.

Don't worry about weapons breaking. I'm full up all the time.

All heavy 2 handed weapons like hammers can break rocks easily, making it easy to get the contents.

Rupees are rare in the wild, primarily you get a good amount by selling items and food. Cooked food is worth more then raw ingredients.

I'll echo the "don't worry about weapons" sentiment. Weapons are meant to be used and broken. You might want to keep a good one or two in case you run into something nasty, but if you do run into something nasty, don't keep trying to save the good weapons. There are always more around the corner.

Weapons breaking is part of the game design. It encourages trying out different playstyles in different situations. The haters are just afraid of change. You'll literally never run out of weapons to use unless you're purposely wasting them.

I'd recommend staying on the main path for a short time, up through the quest named "Locked Mementos." If you're a completionist, you're going to want to do this quest before branching out to all corners of the world. After that, go wherever the wind takes you.

Outright spoiler: You earn a Camera Rune during this quest, which allows you to begin compiling a compendium of the world.

I'd heard about the weapons thing. What happens when you run out though? Do you just start fighting with your fists?

You have unlimited bombs. Damage is pretty shit but you can easily use them to blast enemies with weapons and grab them when they drop. Hand to hand combat is not a thing btw.

If you blow up an enemy they will often drop their weapon. Depending on where you are in the map, there are also weapons scattered about although they are usually Rusty.

Nah, Link just can't fight other than the bomb rune or clever use of Magnesis if he runs out of weapons. The bombs don't do much damage at all, but they make smaller enemies go flying, potentially dropping their weapons so you can pick them up.

Overall though it's easy to replenish weapons.

I wouldn't worry about running out of weapons. Pretty much the only time it ever happens is if you're successively seeking out fights with large / powerful enemies... there are a few who will eat through more of your weapon inventory than they give back as reward.

You can also pick up brooms and rakes from stables as well. But you find actual weapons so often that shouldn't have to.

That's the only one I didn't understand, lol. If you never played it and have a Switch, by all means get the Switch version. It runs better (not significantly but there's a difference) and otherwise has nothing missing from the Wii U version. It even has a VR mode (but I wouldn't recommend using that).
