Just one silver lining.. violent crime is at an all time low... but because "if it bleeds, it leads" is a selling point for media organizations... you still see plenty of

"and here someone was shot"
"and here someone was robbed"
"and here there is unrest"

We're exposed to it through media a lot more due to the internet and the mass coverage, but things actually are improving.

The unemployment rate doing so well is actually working against me right now because everyone seems to already have the staff they need.

Nah, that's not true either. The only sources saying that have altered the way the statistics are analyzed. Your kids have a higher chance of drowning in a bath tub than being killed in a school shooting.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/mass-shootings-not-actually-on-the-rise

I see a lot of people who are buying into a nonsense media narrative, and THAT is the problem. Believe it or not, the country is doing great right now. But the Democrats' rhetoric of free stuff and intersectionality don't really sell well in a strong economy with good race relations, so they have to keep telling everyone how shitty is. Stop listening to their crap and look at the world through your own eyes.

What "seems" like it's on the rise and what's actually on the rise are often not the same thing. OP is referring to a lot of things that news/internet articles are covering lately simply because it gets a lot of views.

For instance, I'm pretty sure police shootings have been steady or a very slight decline since 2015. We just started addressing the issue heavily because it gets a lot of ratings and, ya know is fucking wrong and should be stopped. It still doesn't mean it's getting worse. Look up numbers from the 70s and you'll be appalled.

Yes, really. The country was polarised over Vietnam. Students were gunned down by National Guardsmen at Kent State. American cities burned during race riots between 1965-68. The Kennedy assassination and the Watergate scandal deepened a cynical distrust of the federal government and the men behind it. And those are just a few of the lowlights. The United States seemed to no less disunited back then than it does now.

The way they define school shootings is a little flimsy. They're studying "multiple victim shootings" which they define as 4 or more victims and at least 2 deaths by firearms, excluding the assailant. So by that standard the Colorado shooting wasn't actually a school shooting. Which I would hope you disagree with.

We're just exposed to all this shit more because of the internet. The only thing that has really changed between then and now is a loss of nuance, everything is seemingly black and white with no middle ground. Again mostly because of the internet.

The other thing is that school shootings weren't really a thing before the '90's. After an explosion (a rapid expnasion), of course all the measurable statistics appear to go down. But the fact that the measurable statistic - the rapid expansion of school shootings - even exists, is itself a problem.
