I used to love thinking of zombie scenarios until two things became apparent to me.

1. They cannot rip you open with a single bite.
2. They constantly rot so a zombie shuffle would erase their feet after a few miles.

So basically I just have to run and wear light armor.

They constantly rot

Usually that is explained as most necrotising bacteria is repelled from the zombie virus.

Sure, you can run from the zombies.
But can you run from yourself?

What i meant to emphasize is that zombies are constantly dragging themselves wherever they go. This would cause significant damage to living tissue. An undead would just tear itself apart as it doesn't stop to heal.

Then they would waste away from lack of energy intake within weeks of most humans being consumed.

Zombies are only dangerous early on. The Walking Dead would never happen. They couldn't possibly last a year.

I suppose it would make sense if zombies somehow had regenerative abilities, but even in Resident Evil they look so decomposed.

Science zombies cant exist only magic zombies

Basically. Zombies are a fundamental impossibility excluding one circumstance that would not happen(A dead body turned into a zombie before its burial, but that would be contained very quickly) - this can not, and will not ever change, under any circumstance, whatsoever. This is primarily due to the fact (that is always overlooked) that when you're underground like that, you have literal tons of pressure on top of you - you are not getting out of that, no matter how immeasurably strong you are. Even if you took 10 of the world's strongest people on earth, you'd possibly have an extremely slim chance at best - forget rotted tissue that wouldn't even be able to open a door knob, much less literal tons.

The point of eating is that they are literally just pure instinct. Eating is instinct, they get nothing from it but they are compelled to do it anyway.

Yes. One of the Outbreak games confirmed it.

i think most zombie lore has it so they need to eat only living humans for their sustenance

No, you're unrealistic! Just a bunch of ones and zeros pretending to have a soul.

No zombie lore states this. The closest is Return of the Living Dead zombies eating brains specifically, which is the source of the "zombies eat brains" trope.

Even that wasn't for sustenance, in the lore of that eating living brains eased the "pain of being dead" because apparently it was an awful and painful existence for Return zombies.

Yeah, they could feel themselves rot. The first Return was honestly pretty good, and managed to walk the line between horror and comedy. The sequels...not so much.

Some zombies regenerate. Some have extreme durability. Some evolve. Some continue to decay. All depends on the type of zombie you get. The variety is vast.
