hollow_shrine 12/28/18 3:03:41 PM #9:	I actually really liked the idea of a blue collar black family making moves in Chicago and the show not kind of leaning into stereotypes about low income black people like some of it's predecessors. If shows like the Cosby show and later the Fresh Prince of BelAir were early attempts to capture the idea of black affluence on television, Family Matters kind of brought it down to something closer to our level by showing a family where both parents worked but they were also making it. I don't think the show needed an Urkell like comic relief character, but didn't actually grow to dislike that character until he kind of started choking the life out of the rest of the show.
