It's like you're saying that they can't be civilized unless they get to have the exclusivity of a magical alien substance for thousands of years

The movie even makes the effort of mentioning how Africa is basically just misery outside of Wakanda because they don't have Vibranium

Also there's a strong anti-immigrant Trumpian message

j/k Black Panther rules I hope in the sequel we get a white guy who becomes the first white Black Panther kind of like in Dances With the Wolves but with black people instead of indians

Don't forget that the magic utopia that represents the best of African culture still rules by monarchy decided via death matches.

BP is a good movie, but that always felt sort of forced so they could have a plot contrivance for bad things to happen.

Did you miss the whole part of the movie where they outright say that following tradition isn't exactly always a good thing?

I mean that's the whole reason Killmonger was able to take over in the first place.

Pretty sure it was the rest of the world. They didn't single Africa out at all when mentioning how they could reach out to help the rest of the WORLD.

Nice try tho.

Not only that, tribal rivalries still exist within Wakanda, and if a tribe sees an opportunity they can and will challenge for the throne. Even Wakanda is far from perfect.

Those posters just missed that in the two hour movie because they were too busy clutching their caucasity at the prospect of the movie to notice any nuance.

I get that, but that didn't stop BP from both participating in it and reaping the benefits, and then agreeing to it again at the risk of the collapse of the entire kingdom because everyone else was like "*shrugs* those are the rules".

At the end of the day, it's still a monarchy. Take out the combat, and now it's just one determined by bloodline rather than combat. I just don't understand why THAT particular tradition stuck around in this utopia society.

Oh go fuck yourself. I said it was a good movie and I enjoyed it. I just found that one particular part strange. I must have forgotten that any criticism of the movie at all is purely a byproduct of racism.

Neither did I, but why is his name Killmonger? It just seems like such a hilariously grimdark name for what I understand to be an otherwise very nuanced and relatable antagonist

I'm not rude. Just tired. It's been ten months and people are still in their feelings.

They're even preemptively getting mad at the prospect of BP getting an Oscar nom. Like what even is that?

If you have an opinion about a thing, it's reasonable to assume you've read or watched enough of that thing to have an informed opinion about it.

But you didn't do those things

And you definitely don't have an informed opinion. Otherwise you'd know why the character is named Killmonger.

Frankly, I don't even know why you felt the need to chime in. But here you are.

The character is from the 70s. If I had to guess, he was created as a one-off generic bad guy that either ended up drawing fans or some other writer took the character and turned him into one with depth. That's usually how it goes with a lot of good characters with ridiculous comic book names.

Because at the end of the day, it's still a comic book movie and that was the character's name from the comics.

It's his codename while in the military. He specialized at killing people.

Surely you're not claiming you weren't expressing an opinion in post#7. I mean, you went out of your way to italicize the name 'Killmonger.' We could be deaf, and we'd still all hear the derisive sneer in that question.

You're right, let me rephrase that; when did I do anything to imply I had an informed opinion?

Hell, I presumed that not even knowing the main villain's name (he IS the main villain, right? Not a flunky?) would have been enough to demonstrate that I'm NOT informed at all.
