We don't take on nearly enough immigrants. Less than a million green cards are issued a year, that's way too low.

Uh, plenty of them can come to my town. And there's certainly a few openings at my place of business for them to fill. I'd happily accept the local community growing from immigration.

Keep in mind immigrants spend very little time on assistance programs (using them for a couple years to help get established, then getting off said programs). It's almost entirely American born people that leech the system for years.

Legal immigration is positive, improves the economy and community. There are few drawbacks.

I agree with TC. But lots of people on CE are too small-minded to understand the economic and social nuances of legal immigration. Most of their hatred is steeped in racism and fear.

And fake news that has them believe they're a drain on the economy (as opposed to reality, that they objectively stimulate the economy).

Why though? Just because people want to come here?

At the very least, we should be way more selective.

Welfare use varies among immigrant groups. Households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico (73 percent), the Caribbean (51 percent), and Africa (48 percent) have the highest overall welfare use. Those from East Asia (32 percent), Europe (26 percent), and South Asia (17 percent) have the lowest.

We don't need more welfare recipients, especially given our increasingly automated and complex economy. I realize that leftists like to import the 3rd world because poor welfare recipients reliably vote for the left, but importing voters is not how democracy is supposed to work.

We're already extremely selective. We have one of the strictest vetting processes in the world.

And again, immigrants are more likely to receive benefits, but they receive benefits for significantly less time. They boost the economy much, much more than they take from it.

For an already economically developed country, bringing in a bunch of immigrants is the opposite of a good thing. At least for the poor and middle class. Big corporations certainly love having more disposable cheap labor at hand.

Nope. It objectively and measurable improves the economy further.

Are you lumping together poor immigrants from Honduras with engineers from South Korea? I'm saying that we have no need for poor immigrants from Honduras who can't pay their own bills. I can't blame them for wanting to come here, but it's not the role of the Federal Government to help them.
