Fatherless kids have a higher probability of becoming criminals when they grow up. So why not give custody to fathers instead? Is there data that motherless kids have a higher chance of being criminals?

Not sure if serious or not, but the issue is more about a structured household. If said single father also doesn't have his shit together, then the kid may still end up a criminal.

I know its not exact science hence the emphasis on probabilities. And I understand outliers exist. Maybe it's not so much that motherless or a fatherless household breeds troubled children. I don't know because the lack of positive role models might just do it. So perhaps defaulting custody to mothers is not the best thing to do?

Marriage is on a decline. I can't imagine this being good for kids and society at large.

Often times the father is nowhere to be found.

I wonder if kids would be better off with single fathers rather than mothers just because young kids have so many more positive female role models with their teachers growing up.

Probably a small difference if there is any at all.

Wordpress or not, there's plenty of data on the interwebs. I thought this was common knowledge. Sorry.

For boys, they're more likely to turn to crime in a single parent household regardless of gender.

For girls, it matters which parent is missing. Teen pregnancies are far, far more common for girls raised by single mothers than girls raised by single fathers.

That kid will have a higher chance of living a troubled life when he grows up.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but do you have a source?

I'm an Athiest but the negative attitude of marriage is troubling. 50% divorce rate is nothing to be celebrating about especially when kids are involved.

obviously divorces can really hurt the kids

but it's more than possible to have a healthy, functional family relationship without marriage

Divorce rate has basically been falling since 1980 though.

The more I think about single parent households, the more I think the father has greater role than the mother once the hit school age, and especially on puberty hits.

However, all statistics seem to show that a child raised in a house with both parents succeeds farther than any other scenario. I think I even remember seeing one that said a child with both parents in a low income house had a higher chance of having a high income job than a single parent house that's rich.

Not handy. I read an actual study on it in psych class back in high school, but I don't still have that material. A quick google search will bring up a few second and third hand sources though.

Fortunately, divorce rates have actually been falling for over a decade. Divorce rates, not just total number of divorces.

sometimes the father is better suited. but judges almost always give custody to the mothers 99.99% of the time without even thinking it through. doesn't help that most family court judges are women so they are biased to the mom. but also society just thinks that moms are better
