Eh. Toying with the idea of buying stock in dairy, pork, or beef as the current trade war destroyed them, but the tarrifs are supposedly coming off early next year which should mean an upswing. Buuut. I dunno.

Hm. Yeah, I have a funny feeling the foreign markets aren't just gonna go "Hell yeah lets jump back to American sellers!" after all we've done.

Probably in for a bumpy ride.

real question traders are asking now is whether we're looking at 1987/2011 or 1929/2001/2008

IMO we do not have conditions that mirror either case. to me it looks like a global downturn that finally reached the US and pulled us down with it

if every market except the US enters a recession it'd be huge for the US- a lot of foreign money would come here seeking returns since none would be found elsewhere

lol more like obama's phony economy was just an asset bubble thanks to the fed once they cut rates back to zero and do QE4 to reinflate the bubble it's not going to work this time better position yourself now and short the dollar and buy gold before it's too late

earnings rises aren't 'fake', and the reactions in markets seem to be to the fed not caring whether their actions are destructive or not, rather than the fed ever taking those actions

the drop from the dec hike was nothing compared to jerome's comments that he didnt care about volatility

the argument would be more like the commercial paper market has stolen from savers

fed's damage now is that they're removing liquidity during a time of uncertainty

i did too, but it'll be okay man. always 2019 roths!

you could also exploit this chance to move any trad IRAs to ROTH IRAs in a rollover

less tax consequences when the asset value is lower

on one hand why would you want to pay taxes on an investment that might go down in value on the other hand a 2019 recession means 2020 socialism and the democrats are going to tax the shit out of you so i lean more towards roth but i have both kinds

you want both kinds, ideally--401k to draw down from up to the 12-15% tax threshold max, then ROTH for the rest.

the idea is paying taxes on an investment that already lost money, without actually liquidating the investment. this minimizes the taxes

i need to do this for more functional purposes. wife's income is rising too fast, we may not qualify for ROTHs forever.

this is a good problem to have.

Look into backdoor Roth conversions. It's a blatant tax loophole that many people exploit.

You just mentioned rollovers. I meant that even when your income is above the Roth limits, you can still contribute to Roth through a backdoor Roth conversion.

I never did traditional IRA. Just 401k and ROTH for me. With the way things are going now, I should have enough to buy one more time by year's end, and then another time for my Roth next year. I usually don't deposit into my Roth I finish all my taxes anyways. Don't want any complications
