The only thing I would dislike (hate is a strong word) is that you cant really do anything to thieves. Theres too much liability and risk involved, so most businesses dont even want you to get confrontational.

Definitely. At least in some of the places I've worked, the loss prevention there was essentially limited to just being a presence in the store. They could sort of follow people (not too closely) and keep an eye on them, but accusing them of stealing or really even asking them to leave was a huge no-no.

It was pretty bad because there was a lot of extremely scummy people that would obviously come in at night just to steal and they didn't give a fuck if there was a security guard there or not. I'd hate working a job like that where you know damn well that people are stealing right from under your nose but you have no real power to deal with them.

Shouldn't loss prevention be armed to handle punks and thugs ?

I met a guy in rehab who would pretty much just grab bottles and walk out.

If someone confronted him they were met with "Get out of my way or get fucked up" by a guy who clearly meant it.

Yea, loss prevention and mall security is a joke. They really need to make it so those guys can actually do something.

Depends on the location. My work has a department store beside it and the loss prevention crew is brutal. Its like watching Bobby Boucher tackle a guy anytime they go after anyone. It almost always ends bloody.

I did it for a year at Best Buy. Really the worst part was they thought it was a good idea to set up a big TV by the door (and me) and put a movie on loop. I've seen King Kong and Harry Potter and the goblet of fire way too many times.

Not very often. Probably once a week we'd just tell someone to don't. I only have a few stories like watching a guy on camera pocket a $2000 camera and my coworker ended up tackling him. It was more checking receipts because people suck at ringing stuff up right.
