I like all the science stuff about Jurassic Park way more than the horror / action stuff. Its way more interesting. Its a shame they went away from the scientific stuff in the last films and focused 100% on the mindless action

I mean, you don't really have a movie without that part, what's the conflict without the dinosaurs breaking out?

I liked the whole movie. The only part I didn't like was the raptors being super intelligent and being able to open doors and stuff. That was just a bit too unbelievable.

I hate how they ignored real science and used the wrong mirror for the "objects may be closer" gag. At least Pixar was smart enough to fix that when they parodied the scene in Toy Story 2, IIRC.

financial investors, rival scientists, deciding who has to clean up the dino droppings... very riveting

Well, I mean, didnt they ignore other things like velociraptora being the size of chickens, and dinosaurs having feathers?

Also, Jurassic Park reminds me of something I thought was funny...

Well, I mean a dog can open a door like that, you just push the handles one way, not like a door knob, so idk.

Funnily enough, there apparently was going to be a rival scientist subplot with that fat guy who stole the DNA samples and tried to escape. That was never brought up in any of the sequels though.

Dogs don't tend to open doors like that on purpose though. They do it on accident when they are just playing/messing around. There is a difference there. The raptors clearly were intelligent enough to fully understand how a door works, and they purposefully opened the doors.

They already made a few games based on that (not counting a few educational "games").

Jurassic Park Park Builder, and Jurassic World Evolution comes to mind.

You do realize that the dogs don't actually understand how the door works, right? They have just observed their owners moving the handle, so they move the handle too, but they don't actually understand how/why it works.

The raptors fully comprehended how a door works. They were caged animals and had no way of observing people opening doors. Yet they somehow instinctively know how a door works despite never seeing it.

That's what I am getting at. You can teach a dog to do tricks, but that doesn't mean they actually understand what it is they are doing. Opening a door is just a "trick" to a dog. The raptors knew what they were doing. That's the difference.

Sounds like they know if you move the handle the door opens, I think they got it down well enough.

Again, if they know moving handles to open doors is to get out then is it really a trick since they had a purpose in doing it?

You understand that modern dinosaurs are what we call birds, and many birds are among the most highly intelligent animals on the planet

If crows had a body like that they would open doors no problem. Crows and many other birds are more intelligent than dogs and have a much greater ability to figure out multi step problems.

I can forgive them for basing the dinosaur on a deinonychus (which is what you see on screen) and calling it a velociraptor. Raptor is more fun, and again, brings you back to birds. Really fucking smart birds. IIRC in the book the raptors were smaller but I haven't read the book in a while

Basically just think of Jurassic Park as a tale of technology and science gone awry blended with a modern take on Hitchcock. The newer JP stuff is just action formula nonsense with dinos

Then complain about the book, since the dinosaur breakout stuff was in there too.

The science part is impossible anyway, it's just a plot device. The point of the story is "What would happen if humans and dinosaurs were put together", not "How can we make dinosaurs come to life". It would be like asking for Star Wars to be more about how you'd build a ship that does lightspeed
