I feel like most people arent acually against the idea of better controlled migration. Most are just anti-Trump and some are genuinely worried about the budget.

I'm more concerned that it's the most OBVIOUS waste of fucking money imaginable and that its also going to cost an OBVIOUSLY astronomical amount of money. People who have a lack of foresight and don't even understand how illegal immigrants actually get in and stay in need a brain analysis so we can discover how to prevent this insane stupidity in the future.

People don't want the wall? Surely there is no flaw in the wall building plan, if people are critical of it it can only be down to their dislike of Trump

Yes, thats better. *Breaths out contentedly*

I never said there wasnt flaws you did, and i never would, dont put that on me. If you think most people against the wall do so out of rational thought and not primarily because of Trump, well everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I'm sure there are a lot of ways they illegally enter the country, but I bet building a giant ass spike wall will put a massive dent in illegal immigration

I feel as though the support for the wall is because it's the idea pushed by a politician to address immigration, no matter how poorly thought out it is. People don't take kindly to people they don't know (bonus points if they don't look like them) coming to move in next door en masse.

I think the bigger problem is that this mass immigration is result of the instability in their respective countries and the media has taken no steps to inform the public on why there is so much instability.

So you're telling me that if the GOP dreamed up this hellish idea under a different president, we'd all probably be alright with it?

Easiest way to fix the illegal immigration is to punish the companies that hire them and use them as slightly better than slave labor. We won't do that though because those companies rely on that extremely low wage labor and they donate a lot of money to political campaigns.

The reason for the instability is that the US has interfered in elections, and propped up violent right wing authoritarian governments in south and central america for the last 60 years.

Then they would be against that GOP president (though there would be less hate, Trump is a fairly polarizing person). I would acually be more interested to see the reaction of people should a Democrat president ask for the wall. I wonder how that would work out?

The same. Republicans are the ones that pivot on issues due to political party. Dems are better at being consistent with their views.

As democrats are demonstrably more critical of their leaders and demonstrably less likely to flip flop on social issues, I'd say 1) it's not much of a hypothetical and 2) I'd say it would be met with extreme criticism.

I agree with you that it would be met with extreme criticism but not as much as it would if a GOP president made it, just an interesting thought.
