A good rule of thumb is "could this be construed as me being completely serious?"

If the answer is "Yes", don't post it. Or least try to make it a bit more obvious. For example instead of saying "Yeah, Donald Trump is great" you could say "Oh yeah, Donald Trump is GREAT >_>"

During the 2016 election I made a joke about Trump to one of my friends.

She was raging about Trump, and I was just like, "He's gonna make America great again!"

She took it seriously and screeched at me for like 5 mins. I didn't bother correcting her or saying anything. Just let her rage over it. She still doesn't know otherwise, years later.

I don't mind being misunderstood. I just want responses that humor me. The freedom of not really caring what people think of you. If you do then just hide behind alts like most do. If I get to the point where absolutely no one likes me for my weird moods and antics, Ill just burn the bridge :3

I can't help my sarcasm. It's a defense mechanism that stops me from taking dumb people serious.

It is easier in person when you can show it in your voice tho. Some people are so ready to jump on others that they just perceive everything in whatever way they can get defensive about.

It's quite literally on the person being sarcastic to make it obvious to the receiving party that they know they are being sarcastic. That's how it's always been. You can not care but don't be surprised that people judge you over what you say

I agree with this, too. For example, one way to make it extremely obvious that you're being sarcastic about, oh, let's say you're posting something about building wall on the border. End it by saying "and that's just for the Canadian wall!". That will make it extremely clear to everyone that you're being sarcastic.

This is some next level butt hurt

And yet someone almost certainly does think that.

Need to make it plainly obvious. Regardless though, offensive jokes shouldn't be posted here as the ToS won't allow it.

You should know this by now.

I saw your post when you made it and no, it wasn't clear enough at all. Because with all the outrageous shit that is said anymore, you need to likewise make it clear as day that you're being sarcastic and not rely on people to pick up on your tone when they can't audibly hear you.

Hence the prevalence of emoji's and shit like /s or jk for like, the last 20 years or so. Come on man, this shit is easy

College is supposed to be a place where you're exposed to differing beliefs and people who directly disagree with you. It's an important part of developing into a rational, educated person.

Safe spaces, banning speakers and speech limitations all run counter to what college is about.

I got my one and only moderation (a warning) for what I thought was an obviously sarcastic post. I suppose I should have used an "/sarcasm" or something. That post was so completely over the top I was sure that no one would take it seriously.

Another time, I suggested to someone that they arrange their trash in their own front yard to spell out something to annoy their neighbors, and then burn it so that the message was burned into their grass for months. Obviously sarcasm, no moderation.

I guess it depends on the mod and their mood on a given day.

How exactly is it enforced? It says not to post something that's offensive. What exactly is offensive about mocking the idea of a dangerous border wall setup that could possibly hurt people?

And make sure to start out your response like this "Mocking the idea of a dangerous border wall setup that could possibly hurt people is offensive because ____________________________________________"

It doesn't matter that you were mocking it. I was telling you that you are literally incorrect in stating that "/s and I would have been okay." That's false. You would have been moderated anyway. It says it in the ToU and in the dispute section. "Saying it was a joke or sarcasm doesn't make it not a violation" or something to that effect.

That little bit at the end of your post is cute btw. You're not paying for my time, so you're also not telling me what to do or how do it. That's something reserved for employers only.
