I thought it was pretty funny, but thinking about it more carefully, I agree more with this blog:
http://merenlab.org/2018/12/17/face-on-a-turd/
But stepping back, perhaps we can all agree that one of the most important ideals of the scientific endeavor in most simple terms is to set a high bar for evidence-based accumulation of knowledge.

There are few things that can go against this ideal more than celebrating a public figures face on a turd in a peer-reviewed study. If you think this is a well-deserved response to the representative of an anti-science and anti-scientist movement, you have just missed one of the rare opportunities to be better than the biased and damaging ideology you criticize.

It's kinda a bad look.

I probably agree with this guy but LMAO this line is ridiculous. I barely leave my house and yet this opportunity arises constantly. If this was a "rare opportunity" to be apolitical then why are 99.99% of scientific articles apolitical

This is why Republicans don't believe in science

Though I think this is a bit much. I certainly don't think it's a good look, but the anti-science stance of republicans long predates shenanigans like this, and mostly comes from direct ties to industries whose profits are in peril due to regulation.

And in religious stances that are important to their evangelical voters.

Haha. I like it. I'm really trying to get past all that old hippie 'we're all equals' nonsense. Some people are just better than others and Trump is an idiot. We should be scared and cautious of his presidency going into the future. At some point you have to fight fire with fire. Today I just made a status on FB talking about how I'm into X-Men because I'm all about being better than other people, because the standard isn't good enough. And I can say this without being someone who would want to arrest, degrade, belittle, or infringe on the rights of, someone just because I think they're not as good as me.

Yes I believe it is time to be blunt. Some people are just better...morally superior, more talented, more intelligent, creative, etc. So I went off and told people that one day I'm going to make a very crystalized piece of music that will expose racists for the peons they are, because I am better than those stupid fucks and I will enjoy proving it in multiple avenues of genius including, but not limited to, composing and poetry. These fucks are too dumb to do anything but hate on people and they keep us from talking about people for who they really are...their interests, goals, etc. No more sexual orientation and race talk...we're done with this now. We know the answers for what needs to be done. Let's discuss the next stuff now.

So yes...I am better than most people and I am willing to accept this...and it doesn't take much of an imagination to refrain from invoking some kind of slippery slope fallacy that says, "If everyone thought they were better than other people then that will lead to the next Nazi Germany." Lol...no. People just have to transcend.

I agree that its kinda a bad look for a scientific journal, especially given the standards academia should be held to.
