I haven't found that to be the case. In fact Yell is making it so my Mages are almost always getting that spell off before the enemies are able to move.

I dont claim to understand the mechanics of this battle system but how would going slow help a spell?

Because you want to be slower than them so their turn is right before your Wizards. If your Wizard is faster, then the mob will have a turn right after the Wizard, thus moving to either miss the spell or drag it with them to somewhere else

Slower -

Mob moves and/or acts
Wizard gets to cast a spell that will land before that mob gets to move again

Faster -

Wizard's turn - Go to charge spell
Mob gets to move before spell goes off

I remember when that game used to be SO popular on CE. And La Pucelle Tactics. People would spent 100s of hours on them.

I even have a physical copy of La Pucelle, didn't think it was nearly as good.
