Anything you might need finer control of your movements than your aiming. Racing, flying and stealth games immediately come to mind. Also platformers, maybe leaning more towards old school 2D like Mario/Sonic.

I'm not a big PC gamer so take this with a grain of salt, but I feel like it would be easier to name the reverse. M&KB are good for FPS games, sim games, RTS, and just generally anything with a lot of menus that need to be navigated in real-time (pause menus and turn-based combat menus, doesn't matter so much).

Controllers are better for platformers (both 2D and 3D), racing, action-adventure, fighting games, most RPGs, etc.

Maybe somewhere around 99% of all fighting games ever

Pretty much anything that isn't FPS. Then you got other things like VR that need motion controls, lightgun games that need the appropriate controls, etc. Analogs are very versatile but I'll never struggle to play an FPS with one.

Anything that isn't an FPS or RTS.

Am I the only one who likes keyboard for 2d platformers?

Reason being, controllers have continuous controls (control sticks and most dpads). 2d games, however, have discrete uses for each direction. For example, left and right might be moving left and right, while down is morphball and up aims up. With a controller it's easier to accidentally press down while moving. On a keyboard it's a completely separate button and finger, so there's no mixups.

This reminds me of a convo I saw. A guy was telling people to not buy Rogue Legacy because you couldnt use the mouse and hand to use both hands on the keyboard. And everybody was like, it would be harder to use with a mouse because you hand to use one hand to move. And the other to attack, use spells, use specials, jump, and dash. And that it would be hard unless you had theee hands. Then he said, unless like me you have a razer naga and only ever play games with the mouse, ever because he thinks hes everybody...

Most people were like, well buy and play the game using keyboard or controllers...
