Also, this isn't just a millennial thing. Seen plenty of older folks doing that crap too.

You must be a super fun person to be around at parties, or life in general.

Yeah I read an article sometime ago saying major pet food companies are losing money on mass produced pet food because millenials would prefer to feed their pets relatively expensive food.

Or something like that don't take my word for it

So if a building was on fire and a person could only save either their pet or their child, then they should consider either as equally valid choices?

For fun?

It was for status.

Showing up to church with a gaggle of kids in tow was the height of small town status in America back in the day. Big Catholicism brownie points.

Anyway, as to the topic, I'm not surprised there's a cluster of CE who revels in mocking those who can take care of another life. Gotta wonder how well these types take care of themselves.

It's obvious they are people who have never truly cared for anything or anyone else in their lives. Usually that stems from a poor upbringing or they're in a bad place socially and mentally. Since they are on CE I'm willing to bet they have plenty of issues.

Assuming hobos are lazy is just a sure sign of stupidity. It takes more work to live like that than to maintain a normal, even low end, life.

Also, stray dogs are just a lot easier to manage than humans. Less space and general resources go to them. They're also far more likely to be euthanized.

If you don't see pets as family and view them as just property, you shouldn't have kids either. You should be the only living thing you take care of.

We don't need those types raising more shitty people that are the type to abandon their pets when they move.

I was speaking cynically, if that helps. I'm the first of two, because despite my Catholic upbringing, my parents are both scientists and knew better. Besides, around the time I was born the giant flock of children was on the way out of vogue. I knew a couple of families with large numbers of children, but at the end of the day I'm speaking from historical observation, not personal experience.

There are so many things to factor in for a pet's health now. Flea medication, vaccinations, etc. You don't have to be obsessed with your pet to want to take care of those things.

You would have to be a real piece of poop to just buy an animal on the corner and throw it in the backyard like they did in the old days. It would probably end up covered in fleas and infested with internal parasites. Not a good life.

Dogs are sentient. They can experience pain, fear, suffering, etc. They can also experience pleasure (I dont mean it in a sexual way duh) and happiness.

You dont acquire a living, breathing being who can experience all that and then treat it like a fucking toy.

They are pretty much babies, they are sentient, alive and fully dependent on you.

So it is with humans.

Kick a man and kick a dog. Both experience a series of physical reactions and certain chemical responses take place that manifest themselves as pain.

Ditto for pleasure: if a dog eats a steak or a human that likes steak does, the same will happen

Well, they're kin, which is a synonym for family. I understand the latent disgust with using the term family though. Dog owners who refer to their dogs as shit like "fur babies" and don't instill their alpha imprint on their dog, generally have pets who aren't well trained and won't fucking listen, but "dawww iddn't he pweshus".

What do you mean? Pets should be taken seriously (l would say almost as seriously as a child), especially pets that have a long lifespan. lf you get something like a parrot that can live over 50 years that's a big commitment and you need to be ready to take care of it for most of, if not the rest of your life just like you would for a son or daughter.

Also, shhh, let people enjoy things.

The alpha imprint thing is tricky. You dont have to be a dick to your dog because you control the resources: he eats when you want to, if you want to, and you feed him.

That right there is very alpha to them. Then if they challenge you you can just scream at them, hit the ground with a newspaper right next to them and alpha roll them. But if theyre good boys who not cuddle and baby talk them a bit?

I am with OP and my wife and I have dog. Granted if we were seeing eachother before she got the dog, I would have never allowed her to get one.

Getting life and finances together to own a home (own and not pay mortgage or rent) and start a family is way more important than owning a pet!
