It seems like all it takes is one smile to make guys smitten with you. It's really bothersome having to explain to every single guy that I was only being nice and didn't intend to come across as having romantic interest for them.

How do you deal with unwanted advances from guys that simply can't get it through their heads that being polite doesn't mean I like them in that way? I'm just naturally polite and make sure to make others feel comfortable, although it is rarely reciprocated- that's it. Nothing more.

Body language signals certain responses. Eye contact and smiling signal to them that you might be interested, even if you don't intend for it to.

They can't read your mind to know you're smiling for no actual reason beyond courtesy. And since men are typically responsible for initiating romantic and sexual advances, some of them are going to make an advance on a woman to suspect might be interested.

There isn't really anything you can do about unwanted advances unless they involve some actual violation or assault. They're just a part of life.
