I will be so quick to curse off a game now if it has bullshit like trial and error, stretched out for no reason (ex: boring fetch quests to extend gameplay time) or just too hard for my taste

Man I used to love that shit and take it as a challenge. I think now that I work so hard IRL I just don't wanna bother with all that shit anymore, I just want something satisfying for the few hours I put in. I get the feeling most games are designed to give us a sense of accomplishment when we don't have any in our lives, but the work you have to put in is okay only if you have all day and nothing else to do.

That or I just suck anymore

When I play games and lose to a boss, I often have a strong urge to just quit. I'll generally come back, but the wind is just taken out of my sails, many games just aren't compelling enough to not disrupt my interest. I know it's kinda pathetic.

It depends on my mood. I have zero tolerance for random battles even though RPGs used to be my favorite genre. If a game has a reputation for being difficult but still fun I cut it some slack.

I cut more slack for older games since they kind of have an excuse. If it's obvious that it's Blockbuster difficulty though I won't hesitate to turn it off and play something else. Even old arcade games on free play can still get annoying when they go into quarter-munching mode. It just doesn't add to the experience.

Yeah but sometimes it's not even just about difficulty, just tedious bullshit. Speaking of old games I was replaying Parasite Eve 2 and realized, 2 hours too late, that the dog dying was my fault for killing some boss too slowly and it fucked me over from getting the good ending. How was I supposed to know? I felt like my whole playthrough had been shat all over randomly :/
I will never again complain about a game holding your hand and telling you what to do. Old games were just painful sometimes, for the sake of replay value.

I don't wanna replay the game, it's boring and it's just deja vu. Give me a fun first playthrough

I still like games to be challenging, I usually put all my games on Hard to begin with, but other things have made me lose some patience with games. I rarely ever finish games anymore...most are just too long, doing the same exact gameplay for 80 to 100+ hours. Other things like having to do a lot of grinding, or collecting, or just any time-wasting activities makes me lose interest fast. I used to love online games, too, but it's hard now because I don't have the time other players have to become so good. They're turning into grinds now, too...just can't pop into a match and have fun, gotta grind for the next rank, or prestige, or points to buy loot boxes, or daily quests, or weekly quests, and all that shit.

I feel the same as you. After working all day, I don't want to put a game in and continue to feel like I'm working. I realize it's mostly my fault though cause I gravitate towards open world RPGs or MMOs or loot games like Diablo, for some reason.

I know what some of you mean. It's why I refuse to play the Dark Souls games. Sure dying over and over and repeating small chunks at a time was fun 20 years ago, but these days I'm just not interested in playing like that. I have no doubt I could beat the games if I really wanted to, but my time is limited so I don't want to be frustrated while I play. It's the same reason I rarely play online with randoms anymore too. Too much bull shit.

Well the less-complicated, relatively easy and fast task accomplishment can fit the less-patient mood and give you a bit of quick satisfaction, but having to pour in a lot of hours does not.

Both of those aspects don't do it for me. If it's too easy I lose interest, if it's too lengthy I lose interest. I need intense, somewhat challenging but not anally painful, & relatively short gameplay.

I guess that's why I keep playing League of Legends even if it's a shit game in which satisfaction is more of a gamble than anything.

God. the fucking dark souls series.

Purists will tell you to stay patient, git gud and whatever. It's not even that the games are THAT hard. It's just the "do it ALL again" aspect I cannot stand.

I've just spent 30 minutes carefully dodging and fighting these low-level enemies. Why, after having it done once already, do I have to try hard to focus and beat them slowly like the first time instead of rushing through, just because I died mid-level?

I beat Demon Souls back when I was jobless. I loved the setting, the atmosphere, but you never heard me swear so much in my entire fucking life. Tried Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne and was like "Nope" 1 hour in. It's so frustrating because the story and setting are amazing, but I got no time for this bullshit.

This topic in general is my attitude towards roguelikes. It really is such a trash genre. "Just keep playing the same stupid hard randomized shit over and over until you get better" or I could play a challenging game that's well designed and longer than ten minutes

I've gotten to the poitn where I rarely play new games, I just go back to games I've already beaten a thousand times just because I know they're relaxing ,and I have so little time and extra money to invest into gaming, when I do have a second to play I want to know it'll be something fun and relaxing.

i'm all for him calling those games shit but please for the love of god don't say skyrim is shit. we're planning on playing it gotta relive the dream.

i played morrowind 3 on xbox once, so much fun stealing shit ingame, now to the question: i got a ton of patience for long term endurance games ie 100+ hours. my limit is anything over 200+.

Definitely, Witcher 3 opened my eyes with its 'just the story' difficulty. Lots of games have needlessly annoying combat and gimmicks but I don't care for that shit, I like a good story and atmosphere. Now I'm also replaying Witcher 2 with a godmode mod and I love just being immersed in the story.

I wouldn't count on TESVI being a decent game. If you still hold out hope Bethesda is gonna make a real RPG or a game with any sort of depth again you probably also believe somewhere deep in your heart that Santa is real.

I had a similar experiencing with Bloodborne.

Right of the bat I think I fucked up by taking the ax over the sword. I get through a couple mobs of enemies and fight a boss. I think it was a werewolf of something, I don't remember. After a couple attempts I finally get past it, but die shortly after. Then I had to re-do everything again for the 5th or 6th time. I maybe played about an hour and never picked the game up again. It kind of sucks cause I loved the environment and I'm sure there is a fun game behind all the frustration. I just didn't have the time or patience for it.

I can no longer bear the slow start of jrpgs / srpgs I have. I've got several Tales of, Disgaea, FFTA2, Tactics Ogre. My attention span severely diminished over the years that if I don't see something interesting in the 1st couple of minutes I just turn off the game.

Which is why I've mostly play open worlds these days. Those are easy pick and play, drops you in the middle of the game and you do whatever you wanna do.

I did enjoy Monster Hunter tho since its pretty much a boss run with little to no story so you're always doing something.

I guess my tolerance for story driven games is pretty high.
