I sorta went swimming back in September. The hotel had a pool that was literally five feet wide, with a 3 foot end and an 8 foot end.
It would have been acceptable if the concrete exterior of the eight foot end weren't overrun with the chain smoker gang around the clock. It was literally like they smoked in shifts. There were five or six of them and one literally lit up the second another ran out. So I tried my best to swim in three feet of water, and ended up mostly crab walking. --- 53 LIII 0b110101 p16 0x35 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Baffles me too. All you have to do is kick your feet back and forth and either paddle or do that swim move with your arms. All you have to do is watch one person swim for like 20 seconds and you should be able to mimic the movements well enough to not sink and at least swim at a slow speed. If all else fails, just start playing "dog" where you pretend to be a dog who has to run on all fours...and just like that, bam you're doggy paddling. I was able to doggy paddle successfully the first time I ever tried to swim...and I was only like 7.

Swimming is a learned skill
Historically, a certain segment of the US population was commonly barred from swimming in swimming pools, so they never learned how to swim or taught their kids how to swim. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I worked with a guy who couldn't swim. We tried to get him to learn. It was half help and half teasing tbh.
He insisted that he was different from other people and could not float. We told him that was bullshit. People naturally float of course (it's how you can tread water) but his mind was set. I think that's part of it.
