Resident Evil 4: One of the biggest Gamecube Exclusives at the time it was released, it did show what the Gamecube was able to do. The one problem is that it came out on other consoles as well. Notice the lack of Gamecube games on this list btw.

Soul Calibur 2: Another great fighting game, this one came down to having exclusive characters for each of the 3 main consoles. Despite having Link on the Gamecube version, it wasn't quite impactful enough.

Given that Id give TP a 8 as a game but 7.5 as a zelda game.

Half-life 2: Ok, this one's tricky. In one regard I see what people would like about it, and it's not ever getting a sequel is in itself a reason this game is so popular. On the other end, Kingdom Hearts was the same way and now is finally getting a third game in the main series. Valve, unfortunately, is doing what Square-Enix is doing, so I get it, but compared to other games, it's not as important.

the game that brought forth Steam, which saved PC gaming from being almost exclusively an MMO platform, and popularized realistic physics from then on out somehow didn't break the top 10? ok lol

#7: Dance Dance Revolution Extreme (ARC)

Sometimes, you just have to say it: It's impossible for home gaming to replicate the feel of an arcade. This is the first, and up to this time only, rhythm game that made it impossible to really play outside the quarter-munching game places.

What did it do for gaming? You can call Dance Dance Revolution the last great arcade machine, as it literally was the first new idea that brought gamers into arcades since the early to mid-90s.

That's... debatable, since arcades were leaning heavily towards unique experiences and controllers you couldn't use at home, to compete with the dominant home market. Though then again, the fighting game scene was starting to come into its own around the Dreamcast era, and that used standard six-button fightsticks.

Unlike those arcades which had joysticks as your main input devices, this one used a metallic pad that you had to move in time with the music along a set of 4 arrows. The trick is that you have to use your legs, something that most games totally ignored up until the time of this game's release.

There were skateboard games like Top Skater, so the broad concept of using your legs isn't that unusual

More so, the sturdy metal pad was strong enough to hold on for a long time, and when you played it at home, you normally got slick feeling ones that aren't nearly as good. The game is one of the few new ideas that you simply can't reproduce in an arcade feel in your living room no matter how hard someone tried.

Mostly true, since buying arcade machines is a thing in the DDR community, even I bought my own Pump it Up since you just can't really get a good home pad. Though there are plenty of good metal pads for DDR that run around $300

I'm looking at you Wii Fit.

Is the game any good? Yes, it's likely one of the top 10 arcade games of all time, but I wouldn't say it's Pac Man or Donkey Kong amazing. I would say it's an acquired taste. You have to get used to the game and it's idea before you can really understand why it's amazing, meaning you have to get off the couch and play it. You can find it easy at almost any anime or gaming convention, so check it out if you can.

It's also a little rare to find now since many people have bought machines up for their homes, so seeing them at conventions today more or less hinge on if you're lucky enough to attend one that some crazy person who's willing to take their machine there is also attending

and I can personally say, as a machine owner, THESE MOTHERFUCKERS ARE FUCKING HEAVY AS A FUCKING BITCH. Roughly 250lbs PER PAD, the bars are 40lbs, and the cabinet itself is 500lbs. They're also very, very delicate - one guy I know found his tipped over in the U-Haul he transported it in, and that killed the CRT. $600 to replace it, since he wanted an arcade-grade one.

My machine is not fucking leaving my home. I'll take the pads and hardware and screen and all but fuck the cabinet, when I sell my home I'm just gonna leave the cabinet there because fuck moving that 500lbs behemoth again
