I honestly don't even have an inkling of a hunch as to why this is the case. I'll say that the best hospitality I ever got from chain hotels and airlines came from gay men and grandmas, though. They always give me a ton of snacks.

Gay guys are on average more attractive than straight guys (because they personally know what is attractive about a man) and this translates into better perception as a job candidate. It is well documented that attractive people are more likely to be hired.

Huh. This is a good point and food for thought. It's certainly easier to appear more professional when you know all about your clothes. I just do what my girlfriend tells me to do until she gets fed up and just tells me to roll up my sleeves.

On average American gay men don't bother with heteronormative trends such as marriage and raising a family, partly because the leading proponent for such goals is not involved: women.

There are gay men who marry and want to raise children, but what you see on Modern Family is no where near abundant at all in actual society. Gay male couples raising kids is a rarity. One reason is a standard lower interest in both marriage and reproducing (it's actually more common for lesbians to value those things).

I mean you can point to the US protests over ensuring LGBT people get marriage rights, but most gay men really were not as interested in benefiting from marriage rights themselves.

Anyway, that trend of skipping past common American household ideals grants a lot of leeway in achievements because there's no upkeep of family responsibilities restricting free time, expenses, and travel. Which translates to more opportunities for career searching and advancement. It's kind of the same dynamic that occurs when a successful heterosexual man more or less swears off committed relationships and focuses more on status/wealth. They tend to have fat wallets too...

I would think the career advancement of gay and straight men is about the same. It doesn't take extra time to search for a better-paying job and by your logic men with families would think of getting a better-paying job as a priority to benefit their family.

That would explain why single men in general have a lot more spending money, though.

Probably more to do with not having biological kids and not necessarily being constrained by the straight marriage structure. Yeah, obviously they can get married, but without the overbearing societal pressure that comes with getting married to a woman and having kids, its pretty different.
