I've only seen Stinkles post in the off-topic section but I don't read there as much. I think they go there because of the harsh moderation. They'd get trolled to oblivion on here.

Unlike Reddit and 4chan NeoGAF essentially did die after the exodus. It's a husk of a site now.

Keep in mind when that whole controversy went down the admin guy banned any talk of it, the off topic section was closed, there were constant account suicides, and the entire site was down for like a week during peak game season. He basically sacrificed the site in an attempt to save his reputation.

I dunno. Probably not. GameFAQ's is a much bigger site so I doubt it does.

But the ResetERA/GAF message board system is also a lot more centralised. You've got the Gaming/Off-Topic Boards and the dedicated topics for stuff and that's it. Which is probably another reason why more game industry people post there compared to here. Posts and topics get more exposure within the community. The GameFAQ's community is way more fractured and the game boards don't have a good reputation.

I was just talking about traffic.
But I really doubt the latter. Despite how outdated and behind the times gamefaqs is whenever I go to look up in-depth mechanics of games like etrian odyssey or fire emblem I will still get directed to gamefaqs after reddit, discord, and any sites specifically for them like serenesforest. I never hear about resetera ever as a place that knows about mechanics.

It depends what you're looking for. When it comes to game mechanics yeah it's probably better to look at FAQ's here or pinned topics.

But when it comes to topics about the games industry itself or stuff about game development I'd say ResetERA is better than here.

Thanks to GAF back in the day I've found stuff like archives of message boards from the 90's and crazy long in-depth posts about Legacy of Kain. On ResetEra I found a book that goes into detail about how the OG Xbox was developed. I've discovered way more indie games on GAF and Era compared to here.

It depends on the kind of discussion you're looking for really.

Most talk about video games is not stuff that's going to get you banned. Just avoid the obvious landmine topics. As they say on 4chan, lurk more. Every website has moderators that have stupid pet peeves that will ban you for silly reasons (yes, even 4chan).

Not just the FAQs and pinned topics but stuff like data miners and people who've challenge runned the game so many times they know how exactly the AI works. Gamefaqs usually has a few of those around for individual game boards while I rarely if ever see anything like that on resetera.
Gamefaqs is absolute shit with PC games which most indie games are though so I can definitely see resetera being better for indies.
But I usually just stick to discord and steamcommunity for that.
