One of my favorites in recent times. Kinda hate the endings but the journey itself is fun. Love trying out different skill combinations and discovering little secrets I missed out on before.

I'm playing definitive edition on ps4. I restarted 3 times before finding what I really wanted most. Dual lone wolves, maining fane and having Ifan with me, both of us summoners with different complimentary magic. You hit 10 summoning before even leaving Fort joy, and then it's beautiful. Dual Champion incarnates are rad, totems everywhere, lots of magic.

When I defeated the act 1 boss in like 10 minutes, I knew I loved it.

It's not too bad at all. There's a few quirky bits, but you adjust to em.

For general movement you just use the left analog for direct control vs clicking. If you need to stand still and go into a more cursor mode to look around or select something you can toggle it with clicking the left stick. There's the ability to hold A/X pending on console to do a radius search and brings up a menu of every container, torch, item in the radius that can be interacted with.

For the most part you can just run up to stuff and it'll be selected letting you can press A to do the default action or press X/square to open the more detailed alternatives.

Combat is pretty obviously untouched(minus using a button to switch to/from the hotbar), though I do know console get the LB/RB and L1/R1 cycle through targets. You get 5 smaller hotbars vs bigger across the screen ones.

The only loss/negative is you can't tell what effects are on someone, unless it's under examine. I forget at the moment, but possibly there. It's also easy to interact with the wrong thing such as stealing a pot vs talking to an npc if you're too reckless. Other than that I've not had any real issues.

Oh, nearly forgot... managing the inventory/party etc is a bit weird, but not bad. Say you want to change someone's weapon, you gotta hold RT/R2 and go to the appropriate petal. If you don't wanna open one of those menus then tough, you're commited once you let go of the trigger. Right trigger handles journel/inventory/etc while left trigger handles who you're controlling and their grouping/seperation. So yeah, it takes a moment to adjust, but could have been much worse.

One of rhe reasons I adore this dual lone woolf run. Managing two characters is so much easier.

i loved the mechanics but felt that when you take a fine toothed comb to them you find ways to build a character that makes all the content trivial even at the highest difficulties

I just started the definitive edition. Its been almost exactly one year since i played the original version.

Anyway i just washed up on fort joy. I chose lhose as my main and gave her battle stomp, tentacle lash, and bull horn as well as persuasion and animal friend.

Excited to actually dig into this some more in a bit. Not positive who else is gonna come with this time around yet

DE is already applied to the base game via patch, nothing else to buy or download. When you boot D:OS2 it gives you option to play Classic or DE.

I honestly think this may be the most player choice heavy rpg ever made. You can build any build you want, you can make any combo of people and they interact, your choices actually have effects you can see, both minor and large, etc..

The fact I can be like "Id love to do a run with just two people, red prince and sebille, a former slaver and a former slave, and have red prince go on a path of redemption and the two of them fall in love on their journey, which will probably be pretty tense at first".

And you know what, the game not only allows for that, it's even planned for in the story with unique dialog.

You can do almost anything you can think of.

I played ot when it launched with my brother and had a blast, one thing I will never forget is how I killed an NPC in some town at the perfect moment, he was the town crier.
It just got so annoying hearing him say "hear ye hear ye..." So many times. I took out my bow and sniped him right at the perfect moment on his last "hear ye" just to hear him yelp a death scream from like 3 screens away. Chaos ensued and I got away with it. Another masterful kill by the sniping bush...

What kind of line wolves. Dual lone wolf summoners is the way to go. Oh but make your two guys also heavy armor and 2h weapon users.

Dual summoners is all rhe buffs of lone wolf while still having a four man team, plus all rhe totems.

That's partly due to this game being a giant love letter to both dungeons and dragon's and old school rpgs in rhe baldurs gate era.
