"Leave your stupid comments in your pocket!"

From The Room. I know that "film" has a bunch of bad, unnatural and illogical dialogue, but I thought maybe this was an American English phrase, or it was just used in the United States quite a lot.

That film was really bad.

That movie is 100% spot on our colloquialisms and culture. We also throw footballs around constantly as we're going about our day, hang out on rooftops daily, and randomly lay in neighbor's beds while they're trying to get it on.

The first couple of times I tried to say Leave your stupid comments in your pocket , the words just didnt come. I felt paralyzed, as though I were apologizing to some future audience. The line seemed a violation of drama, of cinema, of language itself. Every time I looked at Juliette she could see how hard I was concentrating. This always made her laugh, at which point we had to start all over again.

After one calamitous take, I asked Tommy if we could go with another line. Byron backed me up on this: Wouldnt Shut the fuck up! work a lot better? But whenever Tommy was questioned about his script, he doubled down. He wasnt going to let any of us move on until he had this ridiculous line of dialogue in the can . . .

So I imagined I was saying the line to Tommy, and then changed all the words in my head: Leave [Why] your [are] stupid [you] comments [doing] in [this] your [to] pocket [me?]!

"You're tearing me apart Lisa!" is how we here in America say "Hello, how ya doing?".

instead of saying "hello" we say "hi doggy" and instead of "goodbye" we say "you're my favorite customer"

Reminders me of the special forces documentary where the dude throws up and the instructor tells him "Pick up that weakness and put it in your pocket!" And then the kid picks up the puke and puts it in his pocket.

We also implore people to put up their dukes before engaging in combat. Its considered to be a malicious cheap shot if you take a swing without uttering that phrase first.
