One of my parents told me at one point they had an ER patient who was an attempted suicide by gun who shot from the bottom of the jaw. The bullet passed through the person's mouth and cut their tongue out, through their sinus, into the skull, bounced around some, passed out some side of the head. The person survived with mental r*****ation, no tongue, sinus issues, etc.

I remember in the Jodie Arias case, the defense insisted that her victim Travis Alexander must have been conscious after the gun blast to the head. Since the bullet had penetrated the skull and struck the brain, the medical examiner testified that Travis Alexander must have been unconscious. A rebuttal witness was later called by the defense, and he testified that one could still be conscious after a gunshot to the head, but when asked to describe case studies, he couldn't think of any.

I don't remember that.

According to some reports, she shot herself TWICE in the head! How is that even possible? Wouldn't the kinetic energy to the brain from the first blast render you unconscious? If this is true, it's one for the text books.

So the first gunshot may not have penetrated the skull. However, in the Jodi Arias case, a single gunshot from a 25 caliber (hollow point slug) managed to blow a massive hole in her victim's skull. This Moseley person used an even more powerful handgun, and at a closer range.

Could this be a case of a death spasm pulling the trigger a second time?

it used to be a lot worse. were nearly half what homicides used to be 30 years ago only now you can easily hear about every little thing thanks to the internet. the US is a big country.

That's not really true. Most spree killings are reported on Nationwide. You do not hear about every conventional murder or gang fights but people running into generally unarmed commerical or public areas with guns and shooting at random is always reported on.
