I'm educated with a master's and the guy thought it's my loss I didn't want to take a shitty 52k/year job.

I told him I'm looking for $80k/ year.

Never sell yourself short. Aim high.

Oh well, more time for me to game.

So, you just have a degree but little experience? You gotta start entry for a couple years so you can say you're experienced.

Master's degree with no experience doesn't mean much at all. Assuming STEM (if liberal arts, then entry pay at Starbucks), you should expect $60k at best, maybe $65k if they're feeling generous. You'll only get $80k when you add a few years of experience on top of your degree.

In a related field, sure. If he has a master's degree in history and is applying for engineering jobs, that's another story. We're asking him what his masters is.

If you don't have any relevant work experience, good luck getting 80k. 52k is actually fairly decent for an entry level position.

In my line of work, the starting entry level salary was around $50k. The managers probably don't even make 80k. So if you keep demanding a higher salary than a manager because it says Masters on a piece of paper, you'll be unemployed for a long time.

Yeah you should have taken the fucking job and grinded out a year or two of experience and hopped

I started out making $36K with a BSME, that was after I turned down an offer for $42K because I thought it was beneath me.

Hate to break it to you but this isn't 1975 where your masters guarantees you a $150,000 job with a corner office and a secretary that blows you

How much experience do you have? Because if you have none in your field, they don't have to pay you more for an entry level job. You are not entitled to it.ol Lots of people with no experience in my field have a master's and they get paid the same for the entry level jobs.

Masters only gives you leverage if you have couple years if experience in your belt. It might give you more money or it will take 2 years off a job requirement.

You really have to think about experience in the long run. If the things in your future job are worth it to make you more marketable and help you reschedule your goals, it's in your best interest to take it. You really don't have any leverage to pull with just a master's or even a PHD, if you don't have industry experience.

Yeah dude, you fucked up. Counseling positions don't pay you that much out if the gate with 0 experience. Did you even do any research on what the average person with a bachelors and masters either x amount of years makes for counseling?

PHD might swing some more doors open for you at companies that really value brainpower.

But youre myopic to think that a Masters degree etc will ever trump experience. 52k is a generous start most likely anyway. Join the workforce and put in your dues, youre not special.

TC you've got the right attitude. With how expensive everything is today, 52k might as well be 0k. You're better off sitting at home and playing video games than working for that kind of money, especially since you're so well educated.
