Turnbull hit out at the insurgency that tore down his prime ministership. He described it as a madness and named Peter Dutton and Tony Abbott as the instigators. Turnbull also hit out at powerful media voices. He said Australians were dumbstruck and appalled.
He acknowledged that climate and energy was a problem for his party, and that much of it was ideological.
Turnbull spoke of the difficulties of keeping the broad church of the Liberal party happy. But he said he learned it was crucial, and a lesson he learned from his previous time at the helm of the Liberal party.

He listed among his achievements: same-sex marriage, economic growth, Snowy Hydro 2.0, tax reform, defence investment, the redress scheme for child sex abuse, the US refugee resettlement deal, and the cities deal.
Turnbull will quit parliament. When? Its not so clear, but it will be soon, he promises.
He praised Scott Morrison for his loyalty, and thanked Christopher Pyne, and Marise Payne.

Turnbull finishes with this:
I wish you all the best. Above all, I wish the new prime minister elect the very best and his team. Thank you.

He receives applause from the gathered colleagues and staffers who are in the prime ministers courtyard for this moment.

Lol what did they do? I don't follow Australia much.

just a couple of things from recent memory:

1) they destroyed the NBN. it was supposed to bring fiber internet to most homes in australia. it was replaced with "fiber to the node", which offers no speed improvement over what we have now. they are literally digging up copper and replacing it with more copper. they are literally building new suburbs with copper internet. they decided to do this because it was "cheaper and faster". but theyve spent more now than the original fiber plan, taken longer, and destroyed australias internet as a result (literally just replaced copper with copper when we needed fiber)

2) attempting to donate hundreds of millions of dollars to some shady "barrier reef foundation" in a closed door meeting they tried to hide. i think the "barrier reef foundation" has ex-liberal members involved. obviously corrupt as fuck

3) a while back they wasted hundreds of millions of dollars somewhere, can't remember where exactly but i think it was corporate tax cuts. this is despite the "financial crisis" the liberals are claiming we are going through and cant afford lots of things

4) centrelink robo-debt. people who received centrelink payments (one form of australias welfare) which was meant for unemployed people either looking for work or currently studying. theyve sent out 10's or 100's of thousands of automated debt notices to people who received payments, because their (intentionally horribly designed) automated system determined they were overpaid. basically, the system would average out someones earning over the whole year and use that to determine how much they had earned fortnightly (outside of centrelink payments). This meant if someone worked for 6 months of a year and recieved payments the other 6, centrelink thought they worked for 12 months and sent them an auto-debt.

Sounds like they are complete morons. Good thing they are out then.

This is the same Scott Morrison who:
Locked in massive cuts to hospitals;

Will keep fighting to give $17 billion to the big banks;

Cut $17 billion from schools;

Cut penalty rates;

Raised the pension age to 70;

Cut the Aged Pension; and

Voted 26 times against the banking royal commission.

I hope they get really aggressive with this. Hopefully Murdoch and his cronies don't bury it.

It used to be worse with Abbott in charge and the One Nation party gaining support. This was before Brexit and Trump too.

Now One Nation is crumbling and the far-right utterly fucked over their party and gained nothing.

So it could be worse heh.
