I hope you remember your history because when the Romans forced Caeser out of power the empire crumbled.

About a thousand. And it wasn't continuing it was starting. Caesar founded the empire . It was a republic first. And he took power and turned it into an empire

Caesar never properly established an empire; he simply ruled as a temporary dictator in a manner comparable to that of Sulla. He was assassinated because it was clear his plan was to make his dictatorship permanent.

It was Octavian (Caesar Augustus) that truly established himself as the first legal Roman Emperor.

That vagueness is why a lot of high school units on the ancient world don't really cover the 'fall' or 'decline' of the Roman Empire as a topic, but jump forward to machinations of the young Catholic Church, or the creation of the Holy Roman Empire.

If you want to compare Trump to italian dictators, He's actually very similar to Berlusconi.

Some super rich dude who cons his way to power by repeating demagogic platitudes and who uses his power to enrich his own businesses.

wouldn't consider berlusconi a dictator, but then again i'm not the most knowledgeable on italian politics

outside italian political history, if there is any optimism to be had about trump's political pragmatism, there might be a case to be made for comparing him to bismarck, but it depends on how things play out in the not-so-long term

that sounds absolutely ridiculous.

Bismarck is pretty much the driving factor in how Germany united.

It was Octavian (Caesar Augustus) that truly established himself as the first legal Roman Emperor.

Octavian called himself the first citizen. He was an emperor but he presented himself and the Senate to be much lower status than they actually were so as to appear more relatable to the common Man. Even back then politics was more about perceptions than reality.

That said he actually was a good leader. It wasn't just bullshit to him.

Julius Caesar was also a good leader (at least up until the was killed, he might have turned into a terrible leader had he loved but we'll never know) but he made it pretty clear that he was an autocrat that was above everyone else.

And Trump is less Caligula and more Nero.

Indeed, it was very much the reframing of his role that enabled Octavian to cement control.

That and most of his enemies had destroyed themselves; those that had not, his own generals finished off.

Caesar Julius may in part have had to maintain the appearance of power in order to assert proper control, lest there be another war with the senate.
