I feel like that's all people want to do when they hang out know. "Grab a beer" or if you do anything, they need to drink. I had a friend complain to me about how tight his finances are, and that he can't eat out for lunch. Then goes buy a bunch of beers lecturing me that "you got to live a little." When I worked at a restaurant, there were beggars who would use the money people give them to buy beer instead of food. I get judged for spending money on my hobbies, but then the same people will spend over a hundred on clubbing over the weekend.

I usually end up drinking one or two to get people off my case, but I don't enjoy the taste at all.

Alcohol makes me feel awful. I always get sleepy.

Well, some people are addicted so they will often choose alcohol over food.

For those that are not addicted, alcohol is called a 'social lubricant' for a reason. It makes it easier to socialize for a lot of people.

For some, it's just something to do in order to socialize because of our culture. People, especially new friends, are more like to go 'grab a beer' with you than go do something else like go see a movie, go hiking, etc.

I honestly feel like my lack of enthusiasm for alcohol is killing my social life. My old friends only want to go to bars now, or meet at someone's place to get hammered. New people only want to grab a beer as opposed to doing anything else.

Anyways its a combination of people enjoying the taste of alcoholic beverages and the fact it causes a brain reaction that makes you feel good and lowers inhibitions.

Nothing wrong with responsible drinking, lots of irresponsible people out there though.

I wish I could drink. I had a bit of a drinking problem and because I have a license (pharmacist intern) I have to be monitored. Sucks.
